    whats the best box?

Ive been away for a long time. previously had a mk808 and it was just buggy, problematic, things didn't play right.. couldn't do high definition.

It seems a year later things have moved on a lot!

Im looking for an easy to use, easy to update box that will stream from my mac or play directly from sd card/usb/hard drive. Something that will play 4k would be nice for the future. Need something that can handle 3d.

Also would like something that would be easy for my wife to use who is tech illiterate.

so then, what should i buy?

    thanks for the help

I'll make two recommendations, one for right now and one for the future.

I'm a big fan of the Minix Neo X8-H. Right out of the box its very stable and has a launcher that my non-techie girlfriend liked to use. I've read that it can do 4K, although the most I can test right now is 1080p. The downside is that the Amlogic S802 its built on is getting older and the newer chipsets are already here. I'm looking forward to their Z64 to come out.

The other recommendation is one of the new RK3288 boxes, the RKM MK902II. It wasn't quite as solid as the Minix, but it's to be expected since it's brand new. The performance was amazing though.

I'm sure some of the developers on here can chime in on the different ROMs for these two, so I'll leave that to them.

Let us know which one you pick.

Himedia Q5 Quad is the best box to watch videos or movies. No-one recommends it in this forum, because no-one knows it.

        Hmm..
Same question has been posted.. a few times
-i think.. on paper.. the allwinner a80..

        About true 4k
Over the last few years there have been complains about Android TV boxes decoding 1080p video, rendering them to a 720p frame buffer, and upscaling them

See.. also the s802 faq on freaktab

        Best advice..wait.. for blackfriday deals

I'd be interested in any threads about this too. This is the only one I can see.

          I'm after a decent ~£50 box.

          It looks like I can get a RK3288 1.8GHz (Cortex-A17) CPU, a Octa Core Mali-T764 GPU, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 8GB ROM, all running Android 4.4

What I'm struggling with is whether the RK3288 is better VFM than the RK3188, the GPU is worth it, or whether brand and support are worth paying for, and if so which brands to go for.

I'm not after answers, just where to look. Thanks for any help.
