However that CPU does not have a cover! You looking right at the silicon. BE VERY CAREFUL HERE!
In fact gluing or using heat sink stuff on this may damage it forever.
I have never worked with a Intel CPU without a cover on it protecting the silicon!

I think I will remove thermal pad and add heatsink 50x25x10mm with double side thermal tape on RF shield.

I keep my android stick on top of a cupboard and turn it on from a remote switch - it just boots as soon as the power comes on.

Can this do the same thing or will I have to climb on top of the cupboard to press its power button each time???!

      Thanks

      Tony

Sorry...you will have to figure out a way to push the button.

            Well it actually has!

First this thing is fast for a Windows box! I can use this for many many things.
It's almost like a HARDWARE VM box to mess with windows!
What's cool about it is how fast you can recover or reinstall..... I would never do to my real PC what I have been doing to this box!

Anyway.... Just have to say this more than met any expectations I had... It's just a great box so far.

NO, I actually have not messed with XBMC on it at all... Been learning all tis EUFI, windows install stuff. But trust I have a feeling, if you like KODI/XBMC on your home PC, this will be right there with it.

Too bad I actually hate Windows 8 though.... But I am getting use to it now. I still prefer the power of Windows 7 from a "capable" user point of view.

Again thanks Anna from Gearbest on sending me this! You do ROCK!

Doesn't the bios of most X86 machines have a setting for what to do after a loss of power? i.e. Stay Off, Turn On, Last State, Etc.
              Does it have wol?

I saw the wol option (if the x7 bios supports it?) but then I need another device in parallel to send the ping as the switch to both is flicked.

Or just one of these! : button pusher

If it did support it, would it be possible to wake it with a smartphone on the same local network?

@gearbest @eric can you please give me some idea when the MelePCG07 will be released. I am really after SPDIF

Pretty sure I saw in the BIOS somewhere what to do after a power loss.

Probably worth keeping an eye on Mele's official Aliexpress store or perhaps asking the question there. They have the PCG03 listed but no SPDIF on that and a lot more expensive than the X7.

@Gearbest @PiPo Apart from SPDIF I would love to see an upgraded X7 available with ac Wifi and perhaps the option of more RAM.

Yeah I think there was two options for after power loss S0 or S5. That would suggest if you set it to S0 it should start up

Thanks Bob & everyone for the suggestions.

The only reason I'm considering it is because I know my touchscreen will work! For 2 1/2 years it's been installed in my kitchen & I've been hoping I'd find a ROM that did this & I'd love it if it would.

But reading round the posts I see you saying that it's a game changer. Many will agree.

So... (ignoring my question about how to actually turn it on!) is there any reason to wait? OK, this is the first product to reach the market - so is there anything better specced or priced coming? What can be improved - why should we wait??

One other question, my phone is Windows 8.1 & can't access my lan / nas. Presume no such problems with +Bling?

                            Thanks

My only concern after two days of owning the Pipo is the cooling arrangements. If you are only going to be a light user then I'd go for it. It's a very neat little box, with a great mix of interfaces, and Win 8.1 with Bing is very snappy on it. It boots really quickly, and the silence of the thing is brilliant.

However the lack of any reasonable sort of heatsink on the CPU - it just has a rubbery plastic sticky pad - is a mistake in my view. I'm hitting temperature CPU throttling on playback of HDTV off-air recordings (720/50p) - but with other stuff like Netflix and web streaming online stuff etc. it is fine.

And for the price it really does take some beating. Come on - you get Office for a year thrown in. The hardware is almost free...
