      I don't think this is a hardware fault on the device itself. It is more likely that the manufacturer does not have its good developers for build right Firmware for this box. They poorly rebuild old ver. M8 (1G/8G) with RTL8188 firmware only. But I could be wrong...

        I have great news for you! Today I solved the problem with the CSM8 idle SPDIF.
        First, I have long understood the situation, then checked guess, and then laughed a lot ))


        Now I am fine output through the optical spdif any system sounds, video, audio. Any audio stream are recognized and properly played with my receiver, DTS, DD, PCM.


        The problem came to us from the manufacturer. The board (PSB) is designed so that the same place can be any spdif installed, both optical and coaxial. They differ little strapping, but still different. In our case the SPDIF binding elements on PCB is ready for use coaxial connector, but the connector is equipped with an optical Toslink Of course, since it does not work.
        I analyzed the circuit board and datasheet and redid it. Quite a bit of work, but you need experience with a thin soldering iron. The details are very small. If you do not know how, ask friends or go to any service. This work takes less than half an hour for me. You need open box and very carefully remove two pieces near the SPDIF connector and solder one short wired jumper. That's all After that everything works as it should.
        I outlined in the photo desired locations.

        Add: Another way to solve the problem is simply to remove the connector optical Toslink and install instead coaxial. If such a solution is right for you. Should work, but I have not tested.
