Me too. The box with this FW is crap. No dts passthrough, blurred lines, etc.

I wrote to the support. That is the answer:

Dear xxxxxxx:
This Kodi issue will be debug by Allwinner,since this is special for allwinner, they promise us to fix this problem (pass through issue)
in next 2 weeks,sorry delay again~ I am very sorry about this, I have feedback to them customer is waiting for them for long time and
ask them to try their best to fix this problem more earlier.


My feeling is same as you, get the new fw to help customer fix their problem is my job, but sometimes still depend on the engineer,

I have also another important error on MK80.
I upload all my music to Google music, and
use always this app on my nexus 5 at home
whit the wifi. It´s usefully, and i can access to
all my music very fast ant without stops.

In the MK80 with the same Google account,
the same internet connexion at home, the
app Google music stops continuously and
skip a lot of songs, its like this service
it´s not running well on this mini pc.

¿have anyone tried this app on MK80?

This error not happend on MK80 when i use chrome
and play the songs throught google play music web.

I just got updated that RikoMagic has released a new FW for the MK80 which fixes not only the Passthrough issue but also quite a it of other stuff.
I havent been able to test it yet. Will do so in the next few hours and will post update.
In the mean time here's the download link for anyone eager to try it out:

1.Fix the problem that AlbappTV.apk will quit automatically after opening it.
2.Fix the problem that lines appear across the video playback by Netflix.
3.Fix the problem that when the device connect with SATA hard disk, it will recognize it as USB device.
4.Added upgrading by SD card and local upgrade function(in the boot state).
5.Fix the problem that AC3 file playback by XBMC will get stuck.
6.Fix the problem that pressing other keys can wake up the device when it in shutdown mode.
7.Support using dynamic wallpapers.
8.Add one click clear function.
9.Modified DPI to 240(720p).
10.Support Dolby/DTS pass through by XBMC.

So far disappointed....

I flashed this FW and tested it on my mk80
1. For some reason the resolution showing on KODI/XBMC suddenly is only at 720p! it doesn’t even offer the option of 1080p on the settings. before this firmware it was definitely at 1080p! what is going on here?
2. I tested the DTS passthrough on the Alpha version of Kodi that was included in the FW. While the sound worked, the picture still stutters after every couple of seconds so really nothing has changed.
3. On the official Kodi 14.1 installation the Passthrough doesn't work at all and sound just comes out as stereo!

All in all I think this FW doesn’t resolve the passthrough issue but actually creates other issues.
I just wasted an entire evening restoring my Kodi installation because for some reason the backup I made using the USB-card wizard wouldn't restore it and kept giving me "script error failures".
I don't know what RikoMagic did but they sure need to recheck it fast.
What about you guys? Can you check the issues above from your side and update on your experience?

UPDATE: I found out that the backup file was corrupt and so it is probably unrelated to this new FW release. Rest of issues are real and I forwarded them to RikoMagic support who just answered they woul work on new release. God knows how much time this wait will take. This is a real bummer!

Because of 1. I think (but never checked it) also allwinner works at 2 framebuffer, one for the GUI and one for video output... at KODI at system info you see the framebuffer for the GUI, so maybe they decrease the GUI framebuffer form 1080p to 720p (I didn't checked it at the latest tronsmart rom) ???

Yesterday i couldn´t upgrade the rom, because i had a lot of problems to format SDCARD with phoenixcard , After look for problem on google i find that problem comes because it´s not possible
use the laptop card reader, i have to use a external usb card reader. This was the error message from
phoenixcard "CARD PREPROCESS FAILED"1034" .

I have to look for a usb card reader and i will try the upgrade process.

¿how can i find the old rom version to download? because if i don´t like the newone, i need
to return to the stock rom.

¿there are other upgrade way for the rom? i don´t have usb male/male and it´s possible not find external USB CARD READER.

After look for problem on google i find that problem comes because it´s not possible
use the laptop card reader, i have to use a external usb card Reader.

this might be right for your model but for me it works on my Laptop.
if i get the "preprocessing failed" error, i just Pop out and reinsert the Card. sometimes i Need to restart phoenix Card.

Hi No spam --- Another poor release. anyways the blur line inch from bottom still there. google apps broken in this one as well google plus wont even show up in play store so they broke something again. The sound is hit and miss its wonkie in spmc and kodi old version. The box is slower with this release to noticed it in video and the apps so dont know what they did but not much improvement here.

Tronsmart rom- video fixed , passthrough works. faster. go figger they both got the same sdk??
