    How can I backup/restore my firmware ? (XT-Q7-V11)

I have a XT-Q7-V11 and I would like to take a backup image (ROM) of the running OS and restore it later.

There are so many guides I am unsure how to do this for a
    XT-Q7-V11.

I would use this one, because you also learn something about the partitions and how to customise the AndroidTool...
(I use this way at every new rk device I get)

I tried the instructions but I get this error on this step "Now press the export image button."

Please see attached for the error.

I am thinking it may be because my device is not in loader mode ( I am unsure how to do this for Android boxes)

Yes, your device is not at bootloader mode, it's running at android

You have to press the reset before and while you power on (by plug in the PSU (you have to manage it by plug in the PSU because the box will boot automatically because of the connected OTG port)) the device to get it to bootloader mode...

Sorry, I am unsure how to do this with my Q7. I have a recovery button on the bottom but I'm unsure of the sequencing that is needed to activate bootloader mode.

            Start AndroidTool
            At Box:
            1. unplug PSU
            2. plug/connect OTG at box with USB at PC (if not already done)
            3. press reset (recovery button on the bottom) and hold it pressed
            4. plugin PSU
After a short moment the AndroidTool should show something like "Found Bootloader device" and now you can release the reset

OR install http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?1050-Reboot-App and reboot to bootloader

Recovery is another thing... You try to start the device at bootloader mode...
What das it mean if you wrote "I was able to get my PC to pickup the device" BUT then you wrote "my windows 7 PC cannot recognize the device" ???

Bootloader needs another driver (rockchip class...) but your PC has to recognize the box as unknown device...
It should work with the 4.1.1 which you can find here http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...l=1#post219459

After dumping my files with Android Tool v2.1 I opened Flash Tool 1.37 and I am unable to flash rom because the tool is saying "No found rkandroid rock usb".

                  I am on windows 7 64bit using a XT-Q7-V11 (CS918).

Is this a driver issue or drive and mode issue ? How can I get flash tool 1.37 to read my device ? (I find it somewhat strange because Android Tool v2.1 can pickup my device as a loader)

I don't know why AndroidTool 1.37 do not see your device but 2.1 will do (maybe because of newer driver? or because of 64bit? or...? I don't use 1.37 since 2.x exists)... But you can also use 2.1 to flash your device...
