well and I can't try again cause I think my emerson is bricked. I tried to flash it to stock, livesuite gave an image error and now the tablet just sits there...

so what you need is a dmesg from a stock Emerson?

        We'll get it fixed yet...

I think I'm going to have to "borrow" one from Big Lots :-)

At this point, I'm starting to wonder if the real problem lies with S.T.'s firmware update rather than the tablets. In the bootloader partition, there's a file (script.bin) that the system uses to configure itself. Among other things, it identifies two possible touchscreen controller chips and the drivers they use. The files from both the 4311 and the 543 update say they use either gt811.ko or ft5x_ts.ko. However, whoever pulled the 543 apart said that it had a Sitronix 1530 controller which uses sichuang.ko. If script.bin provides the info needed to identify a chip and load its driver, then you'll never get your touchscreen back using either my ROM or the stock ROM. If I could get a virgin copy of script.bin, I could confirm my suspicions - and maybe fix the problem.

        Any volunteers?

          I'm Bricked

I should have read through the entire thread before trying it, but it's too late now. If you don't find a fix by tomorrow afternoon, I'll take it back to Big Lots and swap it out for another one.

I am the one that took it apart and the sitronix is in there, at least in mine.

Can you pull that from a image?

would it be the same if you flashed a pmid4311 with the emerson image?

I wish I could just go buy a couple from big lots so I had a few more of these. Mine is out.

I don't doubt that you've lost your touchscreen but "bricked"? How so? (I assume you have the Emerson, correct?)

And you're absolutely, positively, 100% sure there isn't any Goodix chip in there?

I have to look at the original bootloader image to see if script.bin mentions the sitronix driver. The bootloader in ST's update is identical to the 4311's which is why I thought they'd be 100% compatible. In fact, even the update's name implies it's using a gt811. Embedded in the file name is "kf006" - this is the "machine name" parameter passed to the gt811 driver and appears nowhere else.

The local stores have so many Polaroids and Emersons they can't give them away. The Polaroid is down to $40 while the Emerson is $50. I plan to get an Emerson tomorrow (if no one offers a stock script.bin) and before I do anything else, I'm going to archive each partition.

P.S. were you the person who also has the Polaroid version? If so, has this ROM given you any problems on the 4311?

YEP TOTALLY SURE. The sitronix was in the same place and hooked right to the Touchscreen, I looked at all the chips and in the 4311 the chip in that place was a goodix. Now whether it can use the same driver as the goodix I don't know...

I suppose it'd be too easy if you could install the em543 file to the pmid4311 and get what you need? no, it'd still have the same chips...

Yeah I have both, the polaroid seems ok on the new rom.

I don't suppose you could buy me two polaroid units and I could Paypal you the $ plus shipping? All the stores out here have no 4.3" units at all.

I apologize. I was typing late last night. You are correct that I only lost the touch screen. I'll just take it back and get a new one.

The problem is with the Sitronix 1530 controller chip. It needs to have firmware downloaded to it at startup. The original ROM has software to do that; the vendor's update does not. In fact, the update is actually for the Polaroid 4311 which uses a different chip. Southern Telecom really screwed it up.

Before "bricking" my unit and trying a reflash, I got the time to so a ls -alR, here's what into a sitronix_httu folder, if it can help

I went to a local Big Lots store earlier and bought an Emerson, which is how I learned about the firmware stuff. I've just made copies of each partition and, after a well-deserved nap, I'm going to boot into Linux and confirm each can be mounted. If so, I can then start fixing things. With any luck, I'll have something by tomorrow.

I have a stock Polaroid PMID4311. Rather not hose it, but I've been watching this thread with hopes of a stable development ('bricked' one of my two budget X-treme Mach Speed tablets with a CM10 upgrade, after which the touchscreen would never respond... not wanting to repeat that!). If you give me some pointers, I'd be happy to pull any data you need from it though. Not even sure if a software upgrade would be worth it- this little 1Ghz mini Polaroid stock runs much faster than the 7" 1.2Ghz X-treme! Much smoother UI and Hulu experience.

Being a hardware hacker, I'd also love to see about testing the usb port for host capabilities, test usb bluetooth module compatibility, and wiring one inside. Maybe improving the battery as well.

I just swapped mine out at BL for a new one. I'll come back in 2 weeks to see if there is a stable fix.
