Re: Is there a way to remotely turn on Imito MX1?

I just tried several key sequences as well as the two mentioned previously and can't get my logitech k700 to start my ugimoto stick. I'm just happy for the time being that I can shut it off. It too has a 2.4ghz dongle so is there some setting I'm missing?

I've done some experimenting today with my wireless RC11 keyboard/mouse and a wired USB keyboard.

I can wake the MX1 with my USB keyboard using Ctrl-Alt-Del, but not with my RC11. Takes about 30secs to appear on the screen , so you need to be patient!

I used a simple app called keytest to see the codes for the various key presses. The problem with the RC11 is that it does not have a physical delete key. The key marked 'Delete' is actually equivalent to backspace on a normal keyboard. I even tried re-mapping the delete function onto another key by editing the Default.kl file, but that still didn't work for waking the MX1. It seems you need to have a physical delete key for this to work.

After all that I decided that there is little point in being able to wake the MX1 anyway. You might as well treat it as a phone and leave it on 24/7. The only time you need to shutdown is if you need to unplug it for some reason.

      Hope this helps

        Hi texbuck,

Refering to my post above, I had a look at the Logitech k700 and I think it's the same as the RC11. What I mean is that it doesn't have a 'proper' delete key. The key marked 'Del' is actually backspace.

I was just looking at my keyboard when I read your post. I do have the function/enter combo and waited no where near what people are having success with. I'm just a little too impatient, I guess.

Xizor, you were right! I changed my k700 for a versapoint keyboard I had lying around, and presto! my ugimito stick can turn on and off at will. Now I need to find a nice compact keyboard with big keys for my clumsy fingers. Thanks for the tip!

Edit: I picked up an iogear multimedia keyboard with a built in trackball and scroll wheel and am liking it so far. I have had no luck using fn/enter to restart my stick, but ctl/alt/delete works great.

              Ah there you are!

Saw your post in another thread somewhere about this. Same here. Changed the mapping of F3 to FORWARD_DEL and that does function as a regular delete key... But nothing happens in sleep mode. Maybe the core system that's running in that state uses a different config file. Dunno.

I read somewhere that the MX draws the exact same amount of power in sleep mode anyway so it's not like you're gaining anything.

WiFi seems to be alive and we'll in sleep mode Bob. The RC11 won't hold a connection (the led stays lit) unless the stick responds.

                  Hi fr0d0,

Yep, I did exactly what you did and came to the same conclusion.

I also read about the power draw being the same in sleep mode. Makes sense to use it on a phone, but no need on one of these. Mine's been on 24/7 now for a few weeks with no problems.

                  Cheers

I have an old x10 remote switch which I use to turn on and off the Imito mx1. That way I know its really off and dont have to unplug it.

Some tvs have USB ports that will power the Imito

I have a samsung LED tv and it has a usb port for media play. I power my imito from this usb port and it works great. That way when I turn the tv on it powers up, and if I turn the tv off, it will also shut off the Imito. The other great thing about this is that if I am watching a movie at night, I can set the sleep timer on the tv and it kills the power to both.

So if you have a tv with a usb port you might give it a try. One thing to mention is that my tv has another usb slot, but it didn't supply enough power for the imito to run properly. It kept restarting in that usb.

Powering off the device in this way will corrupt your nand.

I'm sure you're right at some point. But i never had any corruption problems with my UG007-II (With MX1/2 ROM 1.7a), while it happend a couple of times with my MK808 which i've had for a shorter time.

                          Not sure if it's a big issue with MX1/2, UG007(-II), MK802IIIs devices...

It will not happend everytime you power off the device, but power off the sticks in this way can power off while a procces is writing to nand, or moving data. Soon or latter this way cause problems, other way is you soft power off and then power off the tv

                              Maybe auto-on

I have an mk809ii half brother to the MX2 and mk802iis (same factory different day) .
If I shut it down with the screen icon. switching to the devices input (HDMI 2), or switching the tv on while on it's input. Shortly after seeing the input title (HDMI 2) on the screen, Finless boot animation appears.
I tried this on both my Panasonic and Toshiba tv's. the device will boot when its input is selected.

On a side note the device has been left on for 5 days without a problem.

I tried the HDMI switching on my TV with the mk809ii but it sadly didn't work to switch it on.

I like the idea though and can see how it might work by the switching generating a small amount of power to spark it into life.
