    5.1 sound - not working despite trying ffmpeg and mxplayer

    Has anyone succeeded in playing 5.1 audio on their mk808. I have set up the latest mx player which can use external libs to decode audio. I have used precompiled versions and compiled my own. I can't tell if mx is using it but I can see from the properties that it has 5.1 ac3 audio stream encoded in a mpeg2-ts from atsc recordings, but my denon receiver shows pcm 2/0/0. I have also noticed that all my h.264 recordings from my hd-pvr have an audio sync issue with hw audio decoding but are ok with sw audio decoding. Would be nice to get that working. I have xbmc running nicely too using mxplayer as the external player. sw video decoded stutters (not surprisingly)

    Its really strange, no one in the android community seems to care about 5.1 and 7.1. I guess they are content with PCM. Its funny to see all these people use these devices as media centers, but they arent even getting true surround sound.

    As of now, no DTS or Dolby support on any android device, no matter what anyone says. I have followed tutorials online, used different media players, and nothing, just PCM. Anyone that says they are getting true Dolby or DTS, are probably lying to you. I use my Boxee Box for all of my streaming, streams any file format out there. I really wanted this mk808 to server as a nice web browser, and to run some other android apps. The boxee browser is absolutely horrible, so thats why I choose the 808

      I am working on this. I tried several methods and no go, but I ordered a Turtle Beach USB audio SPDIF adapter. Once it gets in, on back order right now, I will test it to see if the USB device can deliver true 5.1 to my receiver VIA optical. No ETA for delivery currently.

        All I want is HDMI passthrough. Most people that really care about dolby digital and DTS have a receiver that supports HDMI. I really don't see what this is so hard to do with android?

          Android is a phone platform OS. It is based on a open sourced user update OS that never was made for audio freaks. So basically you have an OS that was not designed, or even though to be designed, for high def audio. The fast that we even have HDMI out is a miracle.

          Right now the best I can figure is that HDMI passthrough on any phone is not going to work unless the sound device can handle it. In this case the sound chips are after thoughts.

          The good news is ICS and above does support full DTS and AC3 5.1 audio. The bad news is your stuck with what ever sound device the manufacture puts in there. Most newer Google.TV devices seem to handle 5.1 over HDMI because they are geared with media in mind more that regular Android. So with that I am hoping that this USB device, which has been tested and working for music VIA the TOSLink, will also allow the 5.1 sound to flow. If it does it'll be a cheap 25 buck fix to complete my media system setup.

              Me too! I'm trying to get 5.1 sound, so far no one had an answer. Finally I see I'm not the only one. Hey good idea USB - SPDIF adapter! Keep us informed please.

                Ive also found this to be very wierd! Surround sound should be vital for any media player you would think! It was said 1080p or jelly bean would be almost impossible to fix on the ug802 in the beginning also but someone fixed it very fast so Im hoping hdmi passthrough will be fixed so this device finally can be used for media.

                    I've actually been using my MK808 since the beginning with HDMI passtrough with AC3 5.1 sound without problem like this:

                    MK808 ---hdmi---> TV Toshiba ---spdif---> AC3 receiver

                    It works like a charm.

                        MK808(what player???) ---hdmi---> TV Toshiba ---spdif---> AC3 receiver(5.1???)

                        So let me ask this, what player on the MK808 are you using?
                        Also are you getting 5.1? I ask this because I get sound out, the same as everyone else here, but we only get 2 channels not the full 5.1. I bet your not getting 5.1 and if you say you are you need to check and make sure that the channels are true 5.1.

                        In my running around on the internet I have seen several people say they are getting 5.1, but after they took a closer look they found that their receiver or their TV was turning the 2 channel signal from the Android device VIA HDMI to a virtual 5.1 channel signal.

                          I'm using the stock player (haven't tried it with MX yet, but I'm sure it'll work too). I know what I'm talking about, I'm getting the REAL 5.1 sound. Well, at least with AC3 sound because my receiver (click) decodes only this format. So, I can really tell using the test video (click) where I can clearly hear each of 6 channels and where it's supposed to sound (behind, right, left etc) and it is not virtual, I can tell that too. It should be all about your TV, where you should change sound output settings.

                            Well, my mk808 is connected via HDMI to a brand new Onkyo receiver and I get no 5.1. Only static noise. That should work according to your set-up. Then it should be in the player. I use mxplayer and XBMC internal player.
                            Did you install any extra codec?
                            Are you sure you arn't getting pro logic? That plays over 6 speakers too.

                              Nop, just upgraded to finless 1.6. I had exactly the same setup with my WDTV Live (latest generation with WiFi) and it sounds absolutely the same. Try first with AC3 because this format is not that heavy (might be the only decodable by MK808???). Just download the test file in my previous message and run it while playing with settings on your TV/receiver.
