    [ROM]PMID4311 Modified Stock

Ok folks-here's the modified stock some of you have been asking for-I took out the preinstall apps, added Google Play, and verified it has root.

Please give it a whirl and provide feedback in this thread.

lol! ya, i have one of these (it's actually on loan from my daugher)-the stock is a tricky one-i dare not make an emerson version unless ai have one (which i don't).

I'd love to get an em543 modified stock. If you download the firmware it is the v3 IMG file. The v2 is a pmid4311 with em543 branding...

Ok wait I'm confused.......so the v2 emerson image is actually rebranded from PMID4311?

Would it load/run on the PMID4311 without the touch issue described in other posts?

If it does, link me and I'll put it on my tablet to play with.

ok first download the newest em543 firmware. It has 2 images in it. A v2 and v3. I know the v3 works on the em543 and the v2 gives no touch screen on the em543. I never tried it on a pmid4311 but it couldn't hurt to try.

delorespark speculated that they didn't know when they switched touchscreen controllers in manufacturing...

the file in the newest em543 firmware up on southerntelecoms site named "EM543_Android_4.0v3.img" does work on the em543.

I will try the "EM543_Android_4.0v2.img" file on a pmid4311 when i get home from work tonight.

Ok, cool. I gotta figure out a way to get around that stupid OEM partition requirement...I KNOW there's some file/setting SOMEWHERE in that ROM I can modify that would let me not have to rely on it.......

I can confirm that the em543 v2 file DOES work with the pmid4311. It looks exactly the same but is branded a little different (boot screens, I don't know what else)

                        about reads

                        em543 instead of pmid4311

                        4.04
                        baseband 1.4rc3
                        kernel
                        3.0.8
                        Jul 5 15:16:33 CST 2012

                        build #
                        em543-20120726

If you make a build for V3 I will ask you to modify some things in it, more info tomorrow!

If you modify the EM543 v3 ROM file, please include this fix:

                            1. go in /system/etc/permissions
                            2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
                            3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
                            4. Save the changes to the file.

                            (from http://www.thriveforums.org/forum/to...re-rooted.html)
This is needed for Titanium Backup and others applications to be allowed to write on the external SD card, else we can only write on the internal one.

Also add the tun.ko module to the /system/vendor/modules folder for instance and the proper insmod in init.rc
                            tun.zip

In system/app, remove the LatinIME.apk application and replace with the 2 apk attached, it includes thesaurus for a lot of foreign country.
I can not attach it because it's too big, send me a PM with your email and I will send them to you by email.

While packaging 'tun.ko' with the ROM is probably a good idea, very few people will actually need to load it. In most cases, the version built into the kernel is sufficient to connect to a corporate VPN. If this ROM has init.d support, you can install this yourself using a script containing no more than "insmod /system/vendor/modules/tun.ko".
