I backed up my apps and am reading a bit more before flashing your new ROM on my X5. My X5 is only a few weeks old and is my first Android device so I've rooted it and installed some goodies like XBMC and the typical root apps but I'm lazy and don't want to have to manually reinstall everything again so I'm holding off a bit until I'm more certain Titanium Backup has me covered for a painless Finless ROM upgrade.

I thought about posting a heads-up thread here but perhaps the CASUAL system is too elementary for members of FreakTab who seem pretty comfy with all these obscure Android tools and all the Linuxy kernel tricks. I still thought those two vids were terrific watching for ROM freaks of all ages. Must-see TV.

Trust me, Titanium backup will work perfectly on this ROM. This is because I am not using some other ROM. I am using Minix's ROM so there should not be any kind of conflicts. I have used it a few times now when testing and not had any problems.

Only thing to watch for if your a gamer is where the game put the "extra download data" and if you get that backed up. If you miss that, you will have to download the game data again BUT you should not loose your place in the game and levels...

Gameloft fix!

Hey guys... I see on some forums and blogs people wondering about my ROM stating the stock ROm is good.

YES IT IS! It is very good! One of the best stock ROMs out there and I am NOT kidding!!! Minix puts in the good work and updates the ROMs which is something I cannot give credit to for the China TV sticks!

But.... One thing the stock ROM cannot do is run some Gameloft games!
A prime example. Go to Google Play and try to play Wonder Zoo. It will crash to the desktop after you get past the intro video. My ROM it works!
Now I cannot claim this is my work as my own 100%. Rather it is Christian Troys. But his code did not directly work due to no touch screen support and services.jar. I had to tweak it a little. But it is totally his work here to fix the stupid license check for a telephone Gameloft did on those games.

Also, why minix formatted /system as ext3 is beyond me. Might be a reason but mine is ext4 TRUE. So it loads a little faster and is a little faster. Not by much but we all know, a little here and a little there adds up!

So.... I read on blogs and other forums about my ROM. Just adding more to the explaination. But I can see why many are very happy with Minix stock ROM. I was too... So I could only add a little bit to it! But I think that little bit will help some with things.

If you like it? Great.... I sometimes wonder why some wont try it when they can always flash back to stock? This is not a phone or other device where you cant always try something and go back if you like?

Also.... I am looking into the skype issues and some web cams. This is not easy honestly. But I think I know what the issue is. Alsa and drivers! I am working on this now for you all. I cannot promise anything as remember I am reverse engineering here and not working with full sources.

Minix is a good company and I am in contact with them. I will share anything I find with them. I love working on this device and I thank Minix for sending it to me!
Right now, this is my favorite TV player
It would be an honor to me if they used some of my MODs for future official ROMs... I realize they cannot use my build.prop Samsung spoof mods but other things they can. I think we will all have a lot of fun together and the future of this device looks good!

Oh and I am not kissing Minix's ass here... All they sent me was a device nothing else and with NO expectations or requests from them as to what I do! I tell you all what I think.... Nothing else. Shipping me a $100 device is not worth me blowing smoke up peoples rear ends! I just don't work that way .....

Sometimes GooglePlay didn't run (nothing happened when clicked on it)

I found some weird issues with the 1080p kernel + boot too. There is some lag in the overall system performance, some games lag a bit. Some apps froze and I had to hold the power button down until the device powered off, then power it back on. Shadowgun launched with no sound. Just really weird stuff, but I don't think it was anything Bob did wrong, I think it's still an issue with 1080p kernel that Minix released. It seems to still not be truly optimized for the minix. Hopefully their "official" release of a 1080p firmware in March will perform better. I ended up erasing the nand and re-flashing Bob's 720p kernel + boot and notice a big improvement in performance. Boot was faster, Everything was nice and snappy, no lag in any of the games, all games working correctly, no system or app freezing. Just solid. I love it Bob!!! Great work! N.O.V.A. 3 and Modern Combat 4 look great and play great on the minix, so Thank you!!!!


Also, for anyone playing The Dark Knight Rises, gameloft released an update yesterday and it runs much better on the minix now too. I'm mostly using the minix as an android gaming console, until the OUYA is released, but even then, I think I'll always use the minix x5, best $100.00 I've spent on an android device.

For now this ROM is flashed using the RK Android tool. Later I can make a update.img or CWM flashable zip. Depends on available time and desire from people to have this.

I've installed the 720p version but I would like to test even 1080p one. Since I cannot spend my life reinstalling everything all the times it would be very nice to have a CWM No Wipe versions of both.

At the other forum, I saw koying of TeamXBMC checked in yesterday on their tests of XBMC on two X5 units Minix sent them for testing with XBMC libstagefright for hardware acceleration.

I've made a quick run tonight with our libstagefright build and it seems, as many reported, that 720p works fine but 1080p does not and crashes.

At first sight, it seems a firmware issue, as it take at times >50ms to return a 1080p frame while a 720p is more like 5ms.
I was wondering if someone already tried the stagefright build with the "unofficial" 1080p 0117 build?
Is it supposed to solve things regarding stagefright 1080p decoding?

I can't recall where I read it but I saw a mention that all of these Rockchip devices run slower in 1080p, due to bus design or something so that the only way to overcome it is to overclock which may shorten the life of the device, depending on how well you cool it.

Hello, after Finless's rom installing to me with the intention of playing to Gameloft's games, I observe that I it could not have done to the games motive Gt academy and another similar hiunday academy. When it loads Gameloft's logo it is closed and sends me to the principal menu, nevertheless in my modest Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, I can execute them without problem. After knowing that you habia tuning this rom for this intention, this where the disadvantage? Thank you

NEW - Neo X5 Finless 1.0 ROM

Got this Rom flashed eventually. The USB cable in the box didn't work. Eventually figured it out and swapped the cable and it flashed fine.

Does Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour work with this firmware? I ordered a MiniX Neo X5 from Newegg and I'm hoping this game works. If anyone has tested this please let me know.

IR remote commands expansion ?

Bob, would it be possible to expand the commands that can be received by the built in IR receiver.
The provided remote is useless but for harmony users would be great to have full XBMC control.
It's PITA to use wireless keyboard in combination with remote.
RC6 MCE commands would be great but to have MCE keyboard that would be awesome!

I have never looked at the IR stuff before. Got any info on RC6 MCE commands? I am assuming it just needs kcl and km files?
