    video/power issues?

Im starting to have issues with my 808. I dont know if its due to the 1.6 rom or if its a hardware issue. Every time I open an app the screen will go black like my monitor is searching for an input. After about the 3rd or 4th time it will stay black and ill have to power cycle the 808. Im thinking its either using a 1amp power adapter is taking its toll or maybe when I added the external antennas the solder gun heated the board too much? I dont know. Its been fine since November. Anyone else have this issue? Ive been able to run the stick and a ps3 controller and dead trigger with no issues so im not sure at this point.

    Re: video/power issues?

Sounds like the power source is the issue. Other thing to try is different HDMI cable and port, even different monitor/TV.
But upgrading the power source to at least 2A will make your Android much more stable.

Thats the only thing hardware wise left to do. Only 2 amp is the charger for my phone.

So I used my 2 amp adapter and its doing the same thing. I have the mini adapter to hdmi as well as the 3 inch hdmi it came with and both have the same issues. Even on different monitors that have never gave me issues in the past. The only other thing I can try is downgrading to bobs 1.5. If thats not it my 808 is jacked can anyone link 1.5 for me?

Well I got a chance to downgrade and still having the same issue. Looks like I have a bad stick. Sadface.
Ill probably upgrade to the Zeals Quad-Core stick when I have the money.

Good news! I figured it out. I decided to take one more look at it. Turns out the original heat sink on the opposite side of the CPU was not making contact with the chips. It was just barely floating above them and I could see light between them. This is how I fixed it...

I used a heatsink from a busted 360. This thing wont ever overheat again!

                    Wow, yup that is cool.

I am still doubting the handyness of a stick. We all stick a usb hub in the thing, mod an external antenna etc etc

I am looking for a MK808 box where the connectors are more reliable, an external antenna, better cooling ... thinking about it it doesn't mean that it is alot bigger than a stick but much nicer.

Was it hard to get the heatsink off?

No, not the Cpu Heatsink. That I just pulled off. But the one on the opposite side I had to use my heat gun and pry it off due to it being attached by thermal epoxy. I actaully still had the same video issue even after that big 360 heatsink. Turns out the Powered USB hub I have ben using was feeding power back through the stick, so now the stick wont run stable unless I have 3 amps running through it. So now I have a 2 amp on the power input and a 1 amp on the OTG port and its finally stable. Wont run right otherwise. So I have the stock heatsink on the CPU/NAND and then some vram heatsinks on the other side.

I hadn't posted the latest changes because I wanted to test for a day or so and make sure that was actually the issue instead of jumping to conclusions (mat) like I did so quickly before. Im running the new 1080p kernel and Bob's 1.6 rom and its running great. Streaming movies from my NAS to XBMC on the stick with no issues.

                        OT: CWM?

OT: @Spotopolis which version of CWM are you using?
I installed the latest, version 6.0.2.8, from here: http://androtab.info/clockworkmod/rockchip/.
All is well, except the screen cuts off the first two letters on each line.... hmm.. screen resolution problem?
The TV is says it's receiving 720p when CWM boots up. It can handle 1080p, but I have the MK808 set as 720p, because it's only 32".
                        Sorry to hijack your thread....

I had the same issue. Its due to screen scale. If you tried another TV/Monitor it might fix it. I bet when you first booted the ROM you had to adjust the screen scale for it to fit you screen properly and in recovery it doesn't use those settings. Unfortunately you'll either have to wait for a fix or use another TV/Monitor.

That's what I thought.... thanks for replying. I bought the MK808 for that spare bedroom TV; already have a G-Box Midnight on my main. Not a biggie, still can read it and I am familiar with CWM menus...
Which version are you using? Any issue restoring from ExternalSD? I only made a backup so far, haven't tried anything else.

I'm am (or was before updating to Bob's 1.6. I need to re-install CWM) on an older version. I had the ExtSD issues, but I was messing with the 808 so much that even a recovery wasn't helping. I had to constantly wipe the whole thing. Ill probably install the version you linked soon. Haven't been able to mess with it a whole lot lately cause the wife has been sick and I've got the little spawn to look after.

Its faster to back up to internal SD anyway and then later on copy it over to ExtSD or PC.

I'm still debating on either getting a Zeals GK802 stick or put some money down and get a ODroid-X2 dev kit.
