Mine always picks one of two servers, but the results are the same on either of them.

I'm going to install a webserver on the wired PC and install the speedtest server on it so I can do the speedtest to my own internal server so I get network speeds rather than internet speeds. The internet speed is irelevant really as I only want to access my NAS on the internal network. However as the connection is 30mbit and I've not got anywhere near that it shouldn't be a limiting factor.

Next job though is to make a tidy permanent job of the external antenna.

Ended up with half an hour spare so I made a proper job of my external antenna.

I drilled a small hole in the back of the case and threaded the original wire through.
Stripped back the insulation on the wire tinned the screening and the wire.
The antenna I'm using is from a wireless pci card so I desoldered the brass mounting bit from the pci board.
I then soldered the screening to one of the outside pins and the central wire to the centre pin.
I then threaded as much of the wire back through into the case and used a hot glue gun to mount the brass mount to the back of the case.
      Clipped the case back together.

Went to test it. First test ~500kbps down ~2mbps up. So slightly worse (started to worry at this point!)

Switched off wifi - waited 20 seconds or so (forgot to mention that seems important - if I just switch off and back on I don't always get an improvement)

      Tested again.

Over 15mbps down, over 2mbps up.

      Result!

Obviously I'm going to give it time but what I'd like right now is a script that runs once everything is loaded etc, which turns the wifi off waits 20 seconds and turns it back on again!

My MK809 has been turned on for nearly 24h now, and i still get good results from speedtest.
I just got 12600 down and 11500 up

EDIT EDIT: Alright, tried another version of XBMC, this doesn't turn the WIFI off, but is still a bit slow (along with the rest of the software) Think i'll try the finless again

Now that I seem to be stable with my external antenna - I installed xmbc (which was pleasant downloading the 50mb apk directly on the mk809 in just a few seconds!)

I'm currently streaming a 2GB Avi file from my NAS -video etc seems perfect. Only slight niggle I could mention is that the android bar at the bottom didn't auto hide. I had to click on the little down arrow.

I've no idea if it's using any hardware decoding or if it is purely software but it's playing fine!

Forgot to mention I'm now solely powering the stick from the TV's USB port although I've tested it on multiple different power supplies with no difference between any of them - all seem stable and haven't caused any issues. Lowest was 800mah.

I don't have an SD card plugged in and currently the only accessory plugged in is a very basic wired usb mouse.

After watching a good chunk of the film I can confirm that it streams fine through xmbc (no buffering etc)

The only issue I could see was that during areas of fast movement with lots of pixels change I dropped frames. It did it in a nice way so I didn't lose sync but it was noticeable whilst watching.

I presume this is down to the fact it is using software only? I'll try configuring it to use an external media player from within XMBC and see what happens

Connection has been stable on wifi - I do have a usb to ethernet adapter which works now at full speed but I want to stick with wifi for now.

Now that I've tweaked the position of the external antenna I'm getting around 16mbps down and 2.1mbps up. The signal strength generally shows as excellent sometimes it shows as good.

Sometimes it starts up with wifi working at full speed, sometimes it is slow and needs restarting.

I'd say about 9 times out of 10 it reconnects at full speed. What I have noticed is that when I reconnect I sometimes see a message on the screen where it shows it connecting. It sometimes flashes up a message for a split second - too fast to read. If this message is displayed the wifi is slow, if the message isn't displayed then the wifi is fast! Is there a log to read this message in to help identify the issue?

I have been offline for a bit, as i have been travelling.

The last time i had mine on, it was still on the internal antenna, and with the kernel from Finless' rom, but using the stock image from the mk809 website.

I got fine speeds at around 5-10 mb's and the streams on XBMC (using 1channel) were smooth as soon as they were playing (there was a 10 second delay in the beginning to get it buffering) - i am satisfied as of now, but perhaps it will turn worse later, i hope not ;-)

                  Really happy with mine now.

One issue I have noticed is that the stock home media centre app plays HD video the best but whenever I finish playing a video using it, it reboots (only since going to finless). Tried a 2A power supply to make sure it wasn't the power but it made no difference. Does it on wired or wifi.

MX Player or XMBC both play videos fine but HD gets a bit choppy on scenes with lots of fast movement.

When you get chance can you check if yours reboots with the stock video player app?

just turnoff wifi for 20 secs and on ?

                    Hi nbuuifx,

Are we saying just turn the Wifi off for 20 secs and turn it back on will do the trick?

                    Thanks.

With the internal antenna that worked for me, if I just switched the stick on - wifi was rubbish. If however I switched wifi off, waited probably about 10 seconds, then switched it back on it connected much better (everything reported the same, strength, signal quality etc) and gave a decent speed test result.

Since attaching an external antenna it has been fine 99% of the time straight away. If it ever is poor I just turn the wifi off wait a bit then turn it back on again.

No idea if it is a stick thing or something to do with my router but it works for me!

                        PS sorry for my english
EDIT i flash my mk809 with finless 1.8 but no wifi improvements but same 1080p video was choppy with stock rom and now play smooth with included video player... When i try to flash my device i had problem with adb shell. Adb shell gave me allways no device error. I try some tips from first post but nothing works. Solution for this was root mk809 (easy way found on vondriod forum) then install terminal emulator form android market ,run terminal emultor and type:
                        su
                        reboot bootloader
After thtis mk809 reboot in flash mode and continue with finless instructions...

Problem with wifi and stock firmware from

Hi everyone! I have mk809 and try flashed fineless 1.7. Stick work great, but no wifi (does't turn it on neither direct usb connection, no power supply). When i revert to stock firmware from www.mk809.com, there is stil no wifi! Now stick introduced as r-box and no animated green droid at boot) What i'm doing wrong? I follow all instruction. Maybe wifi module is dead?

The ROM I used was called:

UG802 2dark4u/Finless custom ROM version 1.7 - true 1080 and overclock - AND best performance ever!

It really does seem to be flawless on the MK809 - I'm very happy so far
Could anyone help me on where to find this ROM for download?!
