Re: About Powersupplies !
0.1volt higher doesn't matter.
Take car's computers for example. They are built to run at 12v. But the alternator often produce 14v and it doesnt affect the system. As ling as you stay close to the specs, you will be fine
I run my device with a lab power supply that can provide a max of 5amp. And its set to 5.1v.
I also have a 5v laptop fan that is plugged to the same p.s. to help keep the mk808 cold.

For AC to DC, something like this would be needed:

The cooler part is interesting, as it was?

atx supply
I watched a couple utoob vids abt converting an ATX power supply for use as a benchtop supply...
which is just about what we are doing here.
Old PCs are frequently tossed, and I've got a small pile of them...
Fan operational, or not, there should be a place for it down in the cabinet, somewhere.
... and, as Leolas has said, an extended power cable, wrapped through a toroid ring should stifle any RF radiating from the cable.
When I get one past the smoke test I'll post results here...

It works good.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!
I reboot my stick two weeks ago and no single problem since than.
Also, I believe firmware is very important part of stability. I'm using Finless 1.7C with 2dark4you 720P kernel.

Noob Alert
Hi Guys,
Just joined this great, informative forum, learning lots about mini tv. I would also like a better power supply and could use some expert advice in choosing the right one for my MK808B.
I've found thispower supply on Amazon UK, It looks good to me but, would it do the job of powering a usb hub and the MK808B?
Is the spec ok and does anyone already have one?
Many thanks

Ok, just posting this here for anyone who is interested. I purchased a PNY Black 3.1 Amp Dual USB Wall Charger P-P-AC-UF-K01-EF from newegg and I got the adapter on Friday along with a Startech usb y cable.
I've used this usb cable that you can swap out the ends on from walmart that I had laying around to do some testing on each port separately since one port is a 2.1 Amp port and the other is a 1.0 Amp port, then tested with the y cable. I didn't hack up my new y cable since it's the cable I'm going to be using so I modified the walmart cable to connect it to the meter and then to a small usb hub that connects to the y cable.
Here are my results:
Finless 1.7c and 720p kernel:
2.1 Amp port: 1.4 Amps & 2.0 Amps
1.0 Amp port: 1.0 Amps (Unstable)
Both ports: 1.4 & 2.1, 1.8 Amps & 2.3 Amps
Finless 1.7c and 2dark4u's 1.4 mk808 720p kernel with GPU at 433 MHz:
2.1 Amp port: 1.4 Amps & 2.2 Amps
1.0 Amp port: 1.0 Amps (Highly unstable)
Both ports: 1.4 & 2.2, 1.8 Amps & 2.6 Amps
The power supply is a true 2.1 Amp + 1.0 Amp power supply with a total output of 3.1 Amps according to the markings on it but I didn't get that high on my tests so I might have some room to grow if it can actually handle the 3.1 Amp claim on the power supply and it's packaging.
The results might look strange but I'll explain.
Devices plugged into the MK808 while testing:
1GB transflash card
Hdmi cable
Receiver for a Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard N5901 plugged into the ubs A port
The first reading was done after first letting the MK808 boot up and sit for 5 minutes to let things settle down while the second reading was done while running the epic citadel benchmark. Governor was left at default for each test.
There are two sets of readings for the tests using both ports since the second set of readings were taken while a usb 2 portable laptop external hard drive was plugged in using the OTG cable. So far the readings have been pretty stable since the power along the usb cable didn't show much variance during my testing, roughly a .1 Amp difference at times.
On a side note, each test was done 3 times and then the highest reading was recorded for each time and averaged, which really wasn't much of an average considering the variance in output and I did have a power conditioner plugged into the wall outlet then this adapter plugged into the power conditioner to get cleaner results. The only reason I had this in place is because the original adapter that came with my MK808 turned out to be very poorly designed, like most that are packaged with them I guess. The variances on the original were more in the .6 Amp range after a few days of use, putting the power conditioner in place took it down to .2 Amp for a couple of days but recently it's been back in the .6 Amp range so that one is going in the trash.
I'm at work right now and plan on doing some readings without the power conditioner when I get home along with some tests while streaming hd video to the MK808 as well as playing it off of the connected external drive. Those tests will probably give a more varied result on the read outs without the power conditioner. I'll post them when I get a chance.
Edit: Ok, I didn't have as much time last night as I had hoped so no readings while watching videos but I did take the power conditioner out of the loop and I'm still getting about a .1 to .11 Amp variance even on the citadel benchmark using both ports and the y cable. To me that's not enough to warrant adding a whole other set of readings to what I've already done since it hasn't changed much. It also made me realize how poorly made the stock power adapters really are with these things.Last edited by ofb; 30 April 2013, 15:06.MK808

Got a replacement from seller after original stock psu 5v 2a died.
measured with multimeter it gives 5.25V 3.75A although supposed to be 5v 2a.
so can only say sometimes it all depends on luck!?
