Do you know how to mount kernel.img? Tried as ext3, ext3, ext2, cramfs... no joy!
Now I'm sure it's something inside the kernel... some hardware check as you said. Your kernel load up with original rom, but the same USB/remote symptoms appears. And original kernel on custom rom doesnt even load.Comment

Kernel is just a binary image with a RKCRC wrapper around it. You cannot mount it or anything like that. Best you can do is use a hex editor on it.

They for sure have done something odd with checking things in /system. I did make some progress but stuck on some things. I will try again when I have time.

I was trying to boot picuntu linux on this device. Guees what? No USB.

Rooted this device using Moborobo + SuperOneClick. That's something! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
However, still stuck to that crappy original firmware. Tried compiling new kernels, alternative roms, etc. Everything I tried boot fine, but I loose USB.Comment
