    External HDD, is it possible?

My Mk808b is rooted with finless 1.5a. Is it possible to use an external HDD that is able to be read and write to?I know nexus media importer recently updated with such features and would love to have it on my stick seeing as I hardly have any room for torrents- will it work?

Re: External HDD, is it possible?

I have my mk808 hooked up with 500 GB external HDD (NTFS file system) and works great on finless rom.

It should work with B model aswell, but I dont use it for torrent storage...

        Of course, it works.
I have a 3.5", 2TB hard drive formatted NTFS in a sharkoon usb3 case, it works with no problems.
2.5" hard drive might not work, because not enough power on the USB.

Also, this hard drive works with other android devices (for example with my tablet)
I don't know, larger drives (3-4TB capacity) are supported?

You leave on 24 hours/day? If yes, will not be greatly decreases the life of the USB HDD? I think about it ...
I'm getting a 32GB MicroSD and think about leaving a USB HDD connected 24h.

            I don't think.
The first option is using WD RED drive, instead of green ones. WD REDs are deisgned for 24/7 use, in NAS. As I hear (not an exact measurement ) these red drives are quieter than the green ones. I never heard any head seeking, and it is quite barely hearable when it spins up and down.
The other thing is, that some USB cases spin down the HDD after a certain time of inactivity, it means that your driver will not run 24/7.
I don't know the exact time, but my Sharkoon USB case does this. about 15-20 minutes? My WD MyBook Essential external HDD can be configured, but it is default to 30 minutes, before it turns off the HDD. It does not mean, it is disconnected, only the disks are not spinning, but it can be seen on the computer, and when needed, it is turns on again. About 2-3 seconds delay.
For example, I use my Mk808 for torrents. When there's no torrent activity, sometimes the HDD turns off.

I also have an external NTFS 500GB 2.5" connected via USB on a Belkin hub with 3.8A power supply and it works great. Only annoyance is the HD's hidden path, it takes some clicking to get to it and at a first glance one might think the HD is not mounted at all.

I'm trying to use a Samsung S2 USB portable HDD with 1TB. But the device connect and disconnect everytime. I tested with a 16Gb pen-drive and it worked well.

To those who got it to work, are you using any apps to get it recognized? Or is it really just plug and go. I really just want this to take torrents that are too large for the tiny space on the 808b and have them read off the HDD without much hassle.

Power fault or hub fault. This sticks are very extrange about hubs, I have 3, only 2 of them works well.

I use a WD elemental selfpower 1Tb and a Toshiba usb 650Mb, and no problems nor external software to mount them.

Thanks for all the replies and help to everyone. I'll be picking up a 1TB WD Elemental tomorrow. So now that I will have a bunch of media connected, are there apps that can make a ..."pretty menu" system to display them all, or am I stuck with just hunting for what I want straight off the drive? Im fine either way, thank you again!

My mk808 with stock v4.2.2 works only with external 3.5" self powered 1.5T WD HDD.
320GB Seagate 2.5" hdd is not detected even using a powered hub 4.5v 800mA. The hdd only need 5v 700mA. so i guess even the slight difference in V is not letting it work? its a bit surprising.
Actually using a multimeter to check the adapter output is actual nearer to 5v. But still won't work.
Got a usb 2.0 5v 2A on the way from **** china. Hope it is a real usb 2.0 hub NOT usb1.1

I'm trying to connect a 1TB external USB drive (3.5" in a powered enclosure) that contains a single ext2/3 partition, the disk is recognized by my MK808B but not mounted, it just goes straight to 'USB ready to remove'.

This is drive is from an old media player box (Eaget H5). I'd like to be able to use it without having to format and restore all the files.

Has anyone used an ext2/3 formatted drive on USB with the mk808(b), is there a reason why it wouldn't work?

The Harddisk should Work I think it is a question of the Harddisk Format. Let me think how to mount this.

Could it be because of partitoning?
My 320GB seagate 2.5" hdd have 3 partitons as drive c(win xp), d(win 7) and e(data). Formatted with Ntfs file system. It does not work even with powered hub.
My 1.5T WD 3.5" hdd self powered had 1 partition only data file inside. Ntfs file system. It works without any issues.

                              What do you think?
