Need suggestion on usb to rj45 ethernet adapter

Hi all, I own a mk808b from geekbuyng.
The adapter I bought with the dongle freezes the system.
I'll like to change it and I read that plugable makes good adaptors.
Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter (ASIX AX88178 Chipset)
    and
Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN Network RJ45 Adapter (ASIX AX88772 chipset)

Do you know if they work on mk808b with finless rom (1.7 right now)?
    Thanks
    Pietro

I was literally about to post the same thing. I've heard that some of the adapters are slower than others, which I can confirm with this model:

    http://www.****.com/itm/280968850023...84.m1497.l2649

For me it's slower than wifi on the stock ROM.

Also, make sure to plug the adapter into the main usb port, not otg. I've read that these adapters don't work with the otg port.

Does anyone know if these will work with Android:

I wanted something that works and is at least faster than wifi.

      Hello bugmenot
I think that it's not the exterior aspect of the adapter to make difference between them, but the chipset onboard.
My one is similar to the first you linked:
China-1 Stock | Buy USB1.1 (Full Speed USB 2.0) to RJ45 LAN Ethernet Network Adapter for PC Mac Android TV Box online at unbeatable prices. ✓Free Shipping ✓Limited Time Sale ✓Local Warehouses.

It's a ky-rd9700 chipset. In my case it freezes the mk808B with Finless 1.7. With stock rom it was ok, I didn't make speed test but it was working..

I hope someone will tell us if some of the above adapter/chipset are ok.

        Ethernet adapter

For me the ethernet adapter i bought did not work at all. Any suggestion of a cheap and compatible adapter for the MK808B, with better results than the Wifi, preferable from http://www.dx.com? Thanks

I'm using an ASIX-based 10/100 (don't happen to know usb VID/PID though) successfully with 1.6 on the original MK808.

Do you know the chipset model?
            Had any speed test?

              ASIX 88772A, sold as a "Model JP208B"

As to speed, fast enough to play 720p video from SMB without stuttering, that's all I care about.

Agreed - I was just going through the thread. Too many people say "it works" but I don't trust it if they don't confirm high-speed ethernet connection. ( you really have to try copying a file across your lan to know )

I'll be curious to hear your report, thanks!

                          ok the adapter has arrived.
It works out of the box with my mk808b and finless 1.7.
But I think it`s slow, I don`t know if it`s the dongle or what..
                          I made some test.
a film to be copied from my linux decoder with samba server on it running via lan and same adsl modem/switch
                          the film is 735 MB.
first test, my laptop with ubuntu 12.04 copy/paste it took 78 sec to copy the film. that is 9.4MB/s or 75 Mb (not 100 Mb as should be..)
second test mk808b with bobjgear usb/lan adapter. On the box it says it is a asix ax88772 compatible driver adapter. the same film took 4min 44s to be copied on the sd card with es file explorer. that is 2.5MB/s or 20.7Mb/s (far away from 100 Mb/s).
third test my old usb to lan adapter coming from geekbuyng. The model is KY-RD9700. It freezes my mk808b almost all the times I use it. By the way, the same film took approx 7min to be 50% copied that is 0.87MB/s or 7Mb/s. The copy process didn`t come to the end for 3 times because of system frozen.

last test, bobjgear adapter connected to my laptop with ubuntu. The adapter was immediately recognized and the same film was copied with max speed of 9.1MB/s or 73 Mb/s.

So, asix ax88772 (bobjgear) works but is it normal that its speed with mk808b is approx 4x less than the one with my laptop (old dell inspiron 9400)?
I hope this review will be useful

                              Yep! It's good indeed...
But the problem is that this speed is achieved by my laptop, not by my mk808b..
I started another discussion on this thread:

They told me to change my usb power supply, because it can make the difference in whole system stability and as consequence to the ethernet speed..
                              Let's see if it works.
