Also getting black bg on my nextbook 7 p. But its still works great in most scenarios

I was wondering if those useless buttons for the nextbook can be removed since we already have softbuttons for Back and Menu, and even the Home button in the left corner. Is that in the framework as well?

Most of the status bar is in SystemUI.apk. The buttons, clock, notifications, etc come from the Framwork-res.apk. So yes the functionality of the entire status bar is split between those 2 APKs.

Unable to rename/delete old SystemUI.apk

FYI, if anyone is shy about copying files and what not or has problem making this mod, let me know and I will make you a new system.img with the transparent (fully clear) status bar.
You can flash the system.img and it wont erase your apps but in may mess with rooted apps that put stuff in /system.

I have copied your SystemUI.apk to my sd card but am unable to rename or delete the old SystemUI.apk. I get a read only message. I have tried to change the permissions without success and the root explorer rw button does not work either. Can you help. I am keen to get Kindle working properly before I go on holiday.

Are you running a rooted ROM? If not you will not be able to do this.

However this trick is a little dated now. It is better to use Petrus "status bar toggle" APP along with button savior from Google Play:

The Petrus toggle works fine and my Arnova now performs like my Kindle but with colour. Much better with pdf maps. Thanks for replying so promptly

No sorry it will not. It's for Gingerbread.

But you can try UOT Kitchen. Google search that.

Thanks for responding so fast, I already tried UOT kitchen, and did ALOT of research on how to do this..

I've tried many methods but failed everytime, so is there any other way to do this?

You will need a APK tool. There are tools available for windows. Google search APK tool.
To learn you may also want to research Android Theme'ing.
You will take apart systemUI.apk

In the RES folder of the APK are all the PNG files. Find the ones that have to do with the status bar. Edit them using a graphics program that handles PNG files. You may also need a PNG9 editor.

THen once you make the changes, recompile the systemUI.APK and replace it in your tablet.
