Imito has really jacked around with the MT5931 wifi implementation!
I am pretty sure they did this to stop porting of the ROM.

So I am having trouble giving you guys something better than Imito produced here.
I will figure it out! I love a challenge especially when someone tries to hide what they are doing.

What I am doing is trying to port the MK808B 4.2.2 ROM to the Imito. I think it is a better ROM. But I am having trouble getting wifi to work with this ROM. Imito has done some really screwy things this time with the wifi driver, when it loads wlan.ko, and how. Interesting stuff to be honest and quite the challenge!

Yeah, and wifi is not working very well with their build either...
It doesn't detect a whole lot of the different SSIDs I normally see from my apartment.
Seems it's having troubles using/seeing some frequencies or such (haven't really debugged the problem since I'm using a wired dongle anyhow).

I'm sure you can come up with something better.
I would just love to have it rooted and have the init.d support on the other hand.

I'm a bit curious if they have made any improvements with video hw decoding (in libstagefright?) from their last ROM since that didn't work too well either.

The 3.0.36+ kernel driver is even more proprietary than before!
I just cant get it to work with any kernel or setup or even stock kernel on a different framework!

They are running a daemon now which in my opinion is BULLCHIT!

I cant seem to crack this. Even with the imito kernel.
It appears they have now linked the framework and services.jar to loading the wifi module. This is total BS and just another way to make drivers proprietary! WTF

I have been working on this for a full day now and I am about to give up.

I think I will release a 2.0 ROM using the Imito ROM and then continue to work on this issue. I know I can crack it but I am getting extremely frustrated with this protected implementation

Bottom line I do not like this and you guys are right... Wifi does not work as well as 4.1.1 ROMs. It appears they are more interested in protecting a ROM rather than making users happy with good performance!

One thing I have learned in a year... STAY AWAY FROM MTK WIFI CHIPSETS!

Hi Bob,

Can the guys at Geekbuying help you with their direct access to iMito? There are definitely problems with the WiFi in 4.2.2 it would be in everyone's best interests if this were fixed.

Also, if you have anything missing that stops you from releasing a full 1080p ROM then perhaps this could be sorted at the same time.

Is there anyone can telling me what is the main problem of wifi in the android 4.2 stock rom? i will report back to imito.

I see three main issues:

• My other wireless devices see lots of local wireless networks in the area. The MX1 only sees one or two. The two wireless networks it does see are both within my home. Signal strength (reception) appears to be quite weak.
• The MX1 seems to be very fussy about what bases stations it can access. In my case the MX1 will only connect to my Netgear router and not the Billion. The Netgear is physically much located closer to the MX1 than the Billion but the signal strength of both is comparable.
• WiFi Analyser on 4.2.2 can only identify the Netgear router to which it is connected. The Billion router in my home shows on the WiFi Analyser display but its ESSID is undefined (it used to work on the previous firmware).

The first two issues were also noted, to a lesser extent, in the previous firmware. The last item is new to 4.2.2.

Edit: My WiFi comparison device is a Samsung Galaxy S III running Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Maintenance Release (Australian edition).

Dear geekbuying!

The main problem with this ROM is that bluetooth works worse. My bluetooth mouse and bluetooth headset constantly loose connection. Sometimes bluetooth switches off by itself. (The switch goes to OFF position.) There are no such problems with Finless ROM 1.7a.
When the bluetooth headset is on, WiFi works very slowly, it is impossible to watch YouTube.

I will just say this with my MX1. The wifi has never been great on mine. It was in a aluminium case. I had to pull the wifi patch antenna out of the case and let it hang out, and then wifi worked very well.

Wifi is a common issues with all these stick with the wifi antenna stuck in the case. I think this is why you are now seeing newer stick come with an external antenna.

Other than this new driver implementation they did for wifi in 4.2.2 (I found they are running a deamon now! WTF?), I myself am not seeing any issues with wifi over what I had on 1.7.
I have not spent a lot of time testing BT as I only have one BT device (as mouse). I will have a look. Oh and I did isolate BT drivers int his ROM so I can port that now. Wifi is still kicking my butt porting it.
