Flashed OpenELEC on M8S Box - Box Died. Completely.

i can't do a bootable sd card because the box doesn't have an sd card slot.

the usb3 connection is an interesting idea though - I've got usb3 ports on my desktop and a couple of usb3 cables as well

that's interesting - thanks. the box i got is 2gb ram which appears to be on that list. i'll have to wait and see what happens with the supplier first and foremost. might be a bit reluctant to try a re-flash in case i kill it again though i suppose

it's a customised version of kodi that's been built in to a rom so it turns your box into a standalone kodi machine. i've got it running on my other MXQ box and i really like it and i'd love to get it working on the M8S (if i get another box!!).

It works!. playing with the settings now. never seen this before. think i lost my google play store and android launcher though? is it just kodi now? it brought me back down to 14.2 Helix

what version did you flash ?

just trying the flash tool with the box plugged in to the USB3 port and still no luck.

the error i'm getting is "[0x00101003]Erase bootloader/Lowper/Identify/Error result"

.. which i now find out is because the flash tool only supports USB2 .. DOH!

that's great to know - thanks. if i get a replacement box for my one, at least i know there's a working version out there. you are a clearly a great success with the ladies

for the record, i've just plugged the box back in to the normal USB port and tried flashing again.

the error this time is "[0x10105002]Romcode/Initialize DDR/Read Initialize status/USB Control setup error"

i'm certainly happy to give up and send it back though - i spent enough time on it this afternoon with no success. i've only ever managed to find two IMG files that seemingly are flashable - i have no idea if either one is compatible with the M8S though i suppose.

Flashed with SD card. You don't have a SD card slot on the right side of your box? under the link you put for your m8s box under the description it says there is a SD Card slot. Hard to believe there wouldn't be one. Ive actually never seen one without it. I would contact seller and complain and get money back for false discription if you payed through paypal. Then again. it is aliexpress and I'm pretty sure everything you purchase from that site is complete knock off.

thanks for the reply. I do have the SD card slot, I just don't have an SD card adapter - I seem to have everything else though!

I suppose I could always try getting an SD card adapter to have one last go at making a bootable card to rescue it since the USB stick doesn't work

You can fix it. Go get yourself an SD Card and try one of these firmwares from my older post when I Bricked my machine. http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...dy-please-help

You not having the light on the front is normal. after installing openelec i lost my blue light on the machine and it looks like its not on but it is. My stock remote also no longer works. have to use my bluetooth remote to control the box now. I am going to put original software back on until openelec releases kodi 15.0 instead of 14.2.

i did read that thread actually but the difference is that you said you still got the boot logo screen - i don't even get that.

Update. Just bricked my machine again trying to put back old firmware from openelec. Now I just have a black screen. recovery fails half way. and goes black. hmmm... this is going to be a long night.
