    My modded MK809ll

I noticed my MK809ll got hot when playing movies, so I took a look inside. NO Heatsink!

So, I first added a heatsink to it and moved the antenna outside the case.

I found a 5v USB fan in a £1 Laptop cooler, some 3mm perspex and some irrigation fittings and did this:

Hmmm.... I am wondering if we should make a case mod or hardware mod forum here....

              Thoughts?

Definitely Bob - I started a thread but a full forum would be awesome.

Another thumbs up for a modding forum.

As Horrorzilla said in his other thread, feel free to move this thread if you create a new forum.

                    lol, pukka mod!

I'm starting to get tempted to try some kind of mod with my MK809II too. Bit concerned about the amount of heat mine kicks out sometimes without even a heatsink to help out...

BTW, how did you attach the heatsink to the CPU?

The heatsink came with adhesive thermal tape attached.

                        It looks good!
But the fan is large in comparison to the heat sink. The heat sink the size of a dc motor. The fan blades will not blow air into the heatsink.
                        An efficient cooling.
                        See the picture.

The fan is blowing upwards taking the heat away from the heatsink as it rises, so similar to your picture.

Anyone know of a good place to get heatsinks and fans suitable for use with our TV sticks? I had a quick look on the Maplins site, but they didn't seem to have anything suitable.

I want to mod my MK809II, but fitting a heatsink on my version is going to be a bit tricky, as the relocated reset button (right next to the CPU!) and a resistor (I think) are raised higher on the PCB than the CPU. I guess I'd need a heatsink with a sort of platform on the bottom?!

Do the RAM and NAND chips also need heatsinks if running an overclock kernel?

                              Thanks.
