    Tronsmart T428 thermal problem

After a few tests I have to say that the stick has problems with the heat.
In 3D games, it crashes after a short time and is always very very hot.
I once made a few photos of my simple experiment.
    Normal use

    Playing Catapult King

    At 53,8°C crash it
The displayed temperature is the outdoor temperature, the chip and the heatsink are hotter.
The problem is by design, no circulation in the case.

This gets worse by the day.
So in addition to 'half a$$ed 4.2.2 Android OS, Tronsmart T428
also has an overheating problem, basics as Netflix, Hulu and YouTube do not work
and its power supply is not adequate.

    What is next ?

Called it. They told geekbuying that their so called "nanomite" material will be a sufficient heatsink. The thing is a f**king joke of a heatsink. =D

My unit has no "nanomite" heatsink or any other heatsink and good chance many others that bought early do not either.
So not sure you "called it" until he takes it apart and sees if he even has anything there. I am betting not.

This thing gets hot but not hot enough to need major cooling! Just a simple sink to the case will probably solve this issue. Be careful about speculating until the facts are in...

If you look at a GK802, they dissipated heat to the case using a simple thermal pad. IT WORKED!...... So I think something simple like this will do the same. As for the nano heatsink... god man lets see if it works or not! Again we do not know what his stick has!

By the way.... If a lot of these went out without heatsinks, then in my opinion Tronsmart needs to send those customers a retrofit kit to add one or replace the unit. One of the two.

It is clear this thing gets too hot for consumer use without some kind of heatsink.

But let me say this... the 3066 devices were rated for 1.6mhz. YET NONE OF THEM came that way! Why you ask? Because it required cooling that most of the stick manufacturers did NOT want to spend money on! SO they locked the kernels at 1.2

Tronsmart COULD have done the same here. Everyone was happy with 1.2mhz and those that wanted more, added their own heatsink. Doing this left it in the users hands to deal with!

So there are two "games" to this story. Unfortunately Tronsmart did not get it and left the CPU to ramp to the full speed. So now they have 2 choices... down clock to 1.2 or provide heatsink kits to users!

It's a bad spot to be in trying to be the first out the door with a 3188 stick! But now they made the bed and have to sleep in it!

For me, I will handle it myself. I will add a heatsink and make a case for it... But trust me on this... I think soon we will hit Antutu of 20K or damn close..... Now if we could just get a better GPU....

Then it is fraudulent of them to send the review unit to Geekbuying showing a nanomite heatsink when the early batch did not have any.

I believe if you look at the blog he says that they are adding a heatsink now. Which I took (knowing China companies) that it is being added to later units and not in the first batch.

But maybe I miss-interpreted that blog post? Only Geekbuying can state what was shipped. I PM'ed them to ask.

53.8c is not very hot by computer components standards..

My old gaming computer with a 4890 GPU would run 65c to 75c and still be happy running games and the Q6600 CPU would be at 50c to 60c on a hot day.The only time I seen the computer start to lock up was after I installed a new version of afterburner and forgot to set it up the fan on the gpu was only running at 25% full time playing COD4 at a temperature of 105c the game locked up and so would I..I had this computer for 4 years and the cpu and gpu are still running happily even today in a friends computer.(6 years old now)

(WELL MADE) cpu and gpu should still run happy up to 80c but cooler would be better..

Maybe they should drop the stick idea and make them in the cube type cases and put a 40mm fan in and heat sinks it may cost $20 more but at least it would run. The smaller you make things the hotter it will become....They are only playing movies and low end games you don"t need a lot of power for that..

If these things can't play a movie with out dieing I would hate to see it tying to run a heavy game..

And what is the good of companies advertising the 3066 at 1.6 then down clocking the things to 1.2 to keep it running.Bad for long term business. What is here today could easily be got tomorrow if you stuff it up..And fix the poor Wifi can't be to hard most moblies phone have good wifi signal..

Like finless said Modding is way to go.And be pro paired to spent more money on better power supplies and a powered USB hubs..

                Have a Good Day

I received the following email before I got my stick.
                  quote:
1 appearance is not the same,
MK908 MK808 is almost the same with about the appearance, there are two MICRO USB interfaces, a USB interface, it is built-in antennas and heat sink

T428 only one MINI USB interface, a USB interface, so has a heat sink, one WIFI antenna
                  end quote:

I think my stick has no heatsink.
you can see the wifi antenna and some components shine through.

I need information on how to open the stick and attach a heatsink.

It would be a huge help if appropriately sized heatsinks were available to the general public instead of being a commercial "minimum order 10,000 pcs" type item. Maybe that will change someday soon.

I personally haven't had any crashes but I'm not getting over 17,000 points in landscape mode Antutu on either 4.1.1 or 4.2.2. I get about 15,500 on both ROMs.

I've found a few useful things in ****:

                      (320966208212) Heatsink 51 x 19 x 4,8 mm
                      (370798938674) Thermal adhesive

Then I have only a few openings cut into the housing and attach the heatsink to the chips.

I have now found out how to open the stick.
First you need to replace the two side panels.
                        These are glued.
For this, it is best to use a knife with a thin blade.
The rest is then very easy.
The pictures I will not comment, which speak for themselves, especially from the the "heat sink".

Holy mother of wheatfields......that's not even a heatsink...and I seriously doubt that's the "nanomite" material.

After last time we talked about the heatsink, i have contacted the factory immediately and push them to change that, now the t428 has all shipped with aluminum heatsink, check the following photos:

Only a very few pcs at first will have s0s ones heatsink, if you really have the heat problem, please make sure to contact our customer service, and they will offer you some solution.
