I think the root script for this rom is in this package, not the one you shared. Probably why I couldn't get root before.

I flashed Lollipop to my V5 device and can confirm that 1080p movies are running very smooth on this version. Thanks for pointing us!

nikoloza, I have a somewhat later version of the V5 beta, which is rootable and has GApps installed. It offers the same level of video performance but you can do more with it, especially with root. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll send you a private link.

Can you post publicly? That would be super helpful!

Just flash the ROM, and get the TWRP Recovery, flash the root zip (http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=5336), and the framework and debloat zips from here:

Or is yours a totally different version?

That will be very nice. I tried to install GApps but ended up with permanent "Optimizing apps" and reboots. Then I gave up and installed SPMC, et al via ADB

I've decided to concoct my own single Lollipop for both the V5 and the M903V. I want a rom that's a) rooted with Play Store b) has very smooth video in Wasser's Kodi 15.1; c) has basic power management i.e. power off/reboot/reboot to recovery (with a reboot app if necessary); d) runs faster than the V5 beta but with less heat than Wasser and others; e) gives ethernet for the V5 and wireless AC for the 903V; f) does 1080p YouTube video.

No-one is going to build this for me; I have to do it myself. The elements are all there, and I've made encouraging progress with what I'm calling V-Fly because it's based on elements of the Firefly and V5 roms, but with some adjustments on both sides. I suspect it will work best with the V5 although it should perform almost identically with the 903V.

Not a fresh-built rom and not a simple mix-and-match either. If I get there, the best way to share it would be as TWRP backup, as that would contain all the files I'll need. Not everyone is comfortable with TWRP but I've posted earlier in this thread how to flash a backup from my device to another. It's pretty simple, really.

V-Fly's front-end running smooth on my 903V (16gb). Update: Runs even nicer on the RKM V5 (ethernet gives a slight boost to streaming stability).

And Antutu (spoofing Nexus 10 for 1080p YouTube)

Lollipop Beta 2 for the Rikomagic MK902II is out.

                    http://chinagadgetsreviews.com/downl...ii-tv-box.html

Runs unmodified on the 903V. Will likely do the same on the V5. Pre-rooted, with Play Store and Kodi. Seems fast and smooth on an initial test, with usable power management but with just 1gb app space. Runs a little hot on the 903V. New kernel may be doing that.

Update: Newer build out today (26/10) - build number has changed.

                      Zahir,
Thank you for your work on developing for the RKM v5! I don't know why but it seems to be a neglected piece of hardware!

Personally, I use mine in conjunction with an AppRadio3 in my car, since the fast boot time makes it very desirable. Please keep me posted about your custom rom work!

themuffin, thanks for the encouragement. I like your creative use of the V5. And yes, it's good hardware, with some choice components and an intelligently designed case.

V-Fly has turned out to be a pretty usable and quick rom - but will it be surpassed by Rikomagic's new beta 3 for the V5, which should be out tomorrow? We'll have to see.

Update: Today's beta 3 update from RKM (for the 902II) is pretty good stuff. Runs snappily on the V5 with dual band wifi, ethernet and shutdown/reboot all working fine. BUT it only has 1 gb of app space...

I've unpacked the rom and changed the parameter file to a 2gb space. It's ready for flashing via Android Tool. If anyone wants it, send me a message and I'll upload it to Mega.

Here's a google drive link to my 2gb mod of the RKM Beta 3. Use Android Tool. Add all the files in the Image folder manually to the tool (plus the loader.bin and parameter file).

Zahir , if you want to start a thread for the RKM rom you are working on, it looks like the proper section was unfrozen:

themuffin, thanks, I had noticed that.

                                1. Here's the thing with V-Fly. What I have so far meets my original goals as stated in my initial post about it. But the way I put it together, it's best shared as a TWRP backup. Not everyone wants the extra steps that that entails to flash it, so I'm not sure how useful that is. But if you're up for that, it's pretty simple. As I noted before:

TWRP wants a backup number FROM YOUR OWN DEVICE. So make any old backup of your current installation. Write down the number TWRP gives it. Then renumber (i.e.rename) the backup inside the folder (TWRP/BACKUPS) that you download from me with that same number. After that, TWRP will recognize the folder, and you can "restore" it to get my rom.

                                2. How does the new 902II Beta 3 compare? On the V5, it does a pretty good job once you adjust that 1gb app space, though I still prefer V-Fly for smoothness and video stability.

On the 903V, the RKM beta runs way too hot - as hot as Wasser's rom - and so its costs outweigh its benefits. Artefacts and slowdowns after 30 minutes.

Maybe I can adapt elements of the new beta to the V-Fly configuration and get the best of both worlds. That will be my next effort but for now, you can try the current version here.
