I ran the run.bat and the program saw the tablet and uploaded the necessary files to the tablet. A screen with a restore all options button appears on the tablet. Depress this button and the program is supposed to say the rooting was successful. With the PMID720, this didn't happen. It stayed in the upgrading mode forever. I thought the rooting was a failure but after powering down the tablet and powering it back up, I had full root access. Titanium pro works flawlessly as well as FX Root Explorer. I hope you are equally successful. Chuck
Chuck :-P you been busy. I'm locating the Root_with Restore...I'll check it out. Thanks again.
I was having fun with eclipse today...

    just read Bin4ry's post...nice.

Glad to see this thread picking up.. l have full root access but did not find any utility that worked. I used the method described by Avgary.. the only issues I have found are not being able to sync gcalander .. and an app weatherbug keeps requesting to load gplay which is loaded.

Can you let me know if you have any similar issues?

      Thnx

Thanks I'll update as soon as I hear from them. The email I sent them merely asked the question: "Why doesn't this device work with Google Play?" I've gotten three emails from them acknowledging registering the device and making a support request. Sounds pretty inconsistant and unprofessional so far.

well they did answer me twice... but I noticed a lot of the PDFs they have of models are missing "updates"... so my hopes are not high... I am really looking for a recovery option. Used Odin on my phones, but am spoiled with CWM recovery and CM ROMs via xda as far as that goes. I am a little uncomfortable with the utility provided by stc in that it is in Chinese.. guess I could gtranslate it.

Still have not figured out how to get into nandroid recovery if it has it on this one button wonder.

I'm thinking of trying one of these threads to create a custom ROM.. I don't know if what is needed can be extracted from the device.... seems to me it should be possible.

xda has threads that mention using Ubuntu 64 bit and version # depends on android version (kernel).. etec etec...
I'm sure its not an easy task.. esp since my gut says this tab may have os issues.. hence no "update"

Oh.... and I went right past this post to the flaming section... why I hadn't replied. I was wondering if the post was for me..... I'm the one that got carried away with using utilities.... to root...!

Gave up and returned to Big Lots

Although the tab was fast, with its limited battery power and no img support from Polaroid, I just didn't feel it was worth it to keep.

I figure Polaroid is just a marketing org and it just presents models that are made available - who knows if they are just overruns. If the original manufacturer does not provide an img file, neither does Polaroid.

This tab has such a limited battery. I don't know why anyone would keep it unless it would be to have around the house or from house to office, which is not a bad reason but not good enough for me.

Good luck to all that keep it. BTW, there were none at my BL when I returned it. I will take a look at the next model, if it comes out.

Because I don't know a lot about tablets, I came to this site for an education about them. At 57 years old, and knowing assembly/disassembly and some programming, I think I've grown up quite abit. Perhaps you will find it helpful if you take a breath from flamming me, and read what exactly I wrote instead of assuming and insulting me.

The problems I have with the tablet have nothing to do with anything I've done except turn it on.

Thank you for the warm if not off point welcome.
Flat Out Wrong. The tablet was working as intended from the moment you got home and took it out the box.

Your problems with the tablet began the moment you starting screwing around with it not knowing what you were doing and installing unsupported hacks.

I read what you wrote. That's why I called you a moron.

...and I don't care WHY you called him a 'moron', despite your absolutely unnecessary explanation.

Consider this your final warning that I won't tolerate any type of harrassment of folks on this thread.

                partitions

if I can access all partitions including bootloader with a root explorer , does that indicate the bootloader is not locked ?

Sorry Matt just had to. I had a high school teacher that used to say that all the time. :-)

                    Sorry!

Sorry all, didn't mean to go so far off topic. Anyway I still have this tablet and maybe it's just me but the battery life seems to be doing better. I don't know if it's because of recharging it or it's getting used to how I use it or the app I added to try to extend battery life. Could be a combination of all three. I've watched a couple of movies on it and I get through them but came close to running out of battery life. I shut off wifi and got rid of unnecessary apps running as well as reducing the brightness. Still working on rooting. I see you've had some success with it so I will follow those examples. I wish there was some way to replace the battery in tablet with a better one or have battery "backup", kind of like having a second fuel tank in an airplane or semi-truck. Just a thought. Will keep playing with it. Anybody opened it up yet?

Oh yeah and to c,lei, what is your malfunction dude?! Clifz is just asking questions like anybody else. He does have the right you know. That's why we come here and how we learn.

                      Just don't like peas.
I got a battery pack a while back on sale. Vaas 5000mah for 12 $. Seen 12000mah, good for trips, camping. Solar and cig lighter chargers as well. Long as the ps is well filtered(ac types), should be no prob running the tab while plugged in. A bit of velcro and a short cord?

                        Matt,
Yeah peas are not my favorite veggie either. Just sounded like "peace out." I've run the tablet plugged into an outlet at home which, while saving the battery, defeats the purpose of portability. The battery pack's a good idea, that's the battery backup I'm talking about. You already did what I was thinking about! I'll have to look into getting a battery pack for this tablet.

Kind of off topic but Big Lots again had a Polaroid tablet, a 9" this time, that was $89.99 I saw. Nice looking too. I've got enough electronics but someone could get it an see how it does if they have time and money. Probably not much different than the PMID706, just bigger. I think it's the PMID901.

Also I see Southern Telecom has this tablet, PMID720, on their website now. At least the user guide is out there.

I'm seriously considering selling (most of) my Polaroid tabs defecting to a different brand (for different reasons) personally...

My only issue, that hasn't been resolved over the last 2 months, is that the battery life has gotten even worse.

I'll repeat, I hadn't done anything to the tablet. Still haven't. I was, in a sense, commiserating with the gentleman I originally quoted...when I spoke of the abyss I was about to get into, it was the customer service at the tablet company...They eventualy answered my question to them by saying that Google Play isn't compatible with the tablet. (Which isn't accurate either. I can go on google play and download any android proggie but it sends it to my other android devices.) maybe you are challenged some how c,lei. I dunno. But you're off base and you clearly have no idea what I was talking about. Merely because I enjoy reading about these things doesn't in any sense mean I'll venture off and brick my stuff up just to try it.

Perhaps, for clarification, you'll quote what exactly I said that gave you the misinformed notion that I had done anything to my tablet or downloaded any hacks. Maybe then we'll see who's the no-rom.

Until then, I'll continue to read some of the truly insightful and educated posts that go on here daily.
