I just got the QX1 today!

OK I just got the QX1 today.

The stock ROM it came with BLOWS! USB hubs are not even supported.

It's expected though folks... I just flashed to the recent release geekbuying posted and WAY BETTER!
    All working well so far.

If you got one of these with 4.1.1.... DO YOURSELF A FAVOR! Flash the latest ROM NOW!
Don't frustrate yourself with the ROM it came with.... Seriously!

I will report back soon and also do a "What's in the Box" video for you all.

Oh... and expect a ROM from me... I see things already I want to fix

OK very basic initial thoughts from me.

FIRST FLASH THE LATEST ROM! It's a MUST DO!

    1) BT did not work on first boot at all. It would just turn off. I POWERED DOWN the unit and powered it back up. BT then worked but not really. It would see BT devices and pair, but they would not work.
This is common right now with all RK 4.2.2 ROMs except the T428.
I know they are working on this fast!
How do I know? Because this ROM does what it should do! On pairing, it asks for the key to pair with a device.
Also in the settings for the device there is a checkbox asking if you want to use this device for input.
    THIS IS CORRECT for 4.2.2!
So I think Imito is closer than anyone else in implementing BT properly on 4.2.2!
As my investigations on BT with 4.2.2 has proved to me, all of this is tied to the kernel. So we just have to wait and get that fixed as it is beyond what I can do. Trust me I have tried.

    2) Wifi is actually better for me than the MK908 or the T428.
Now let me explain here. I am not using a external antenna. At first I thought wifi sucked. But then I noticed something. At first it runs in "bursts" and pauses...... but then it seems it tune itself and holy crap! Just hauled REAR END on transferring files for me! Seriously. The initial hang is worth letting it get synced and WOW does it haul butt after that!

    3) NO FRAME SKIPS! Well at least that I can see! You guys like I said above about wifi... let it tune in fir a time or some of you might see "block" skips... But trust me after about 2-3 minutes it is gone! Again I am getting great performance here myself. You mileage may vary! My environment may not be like yours!

    4) It's not at all that much a bloated ROM! But Google Play and other G APPs are behind and you must update. The play store takes some time to update on it's own. So, don't mess to much with the system until you see the new play store. You will know it when you see it! I will also fix this in my ROM.

    5) Launcher and background sucks.... Icons are not in the dock as they should be. Default wallpaper... well that is one persons love an another's hate... I do not like it myself. I will fix that

    Not much more to tell!
It is clear Imito is getting the latest updates from Rockchip including the proper DRM for Netflix.

Personally the latest MK908 ROM that just came out today... is better than this ROM. BUT!!!! I know Imito and I trust and expect updates very soon! They have always had some of the best ROMs. My old MK808 1.6 was based off the Imito. So I know and expect much more to come from them for this device!

    Stay tuned.... More to come!

      One question.

Thanks for the update Bob. Glad to hear you got the QX1 already. Ive been really excited about the QX1 because Geekbuying listed it as having "1080p not up scaled 720p" and I really loved the MX1. Now i see the description changed a little bit. Does it have a 1080p kernel? I was really hoping to see a 1080 kernel and that maybe you would be able to use that kernel on other 3188 devices. I feel like the 3188 devices are fast enough to handle 1080 and now they just need to jump to 1080. Would it be hard for imito / the software developer to create a 1080 kernel?

      Thanks,
      Rivers

Thanks for the update, Bob! Excited to get mine now! Did you test Xbmc?

I am almost positive it does not have a 1080 kernel. But until I take it apart, only way to know for sure.
But I am pretty positive it does not.

          XBMC,
sorry guys... I am not a XBMC nut which is why I do not spend a lot of time working with it.
I will do my best to test with it when I can but considering I flash a ROM every hour or 15 minutes ... installing XBMC and going through the motions is way too much work. Sorry...

Understand, being a ROM guy does not mean I am an expert in everything! I work at a lower level and try to solve the problems there. I only use APPS or XBMC when it needs my attention in a ROM.
That's just the way it is....

I spend more time in a Linux terminal than I do actually using these products fully. There is just not that much time in a day!

My evaluation is based on what I see at a much lower level than an APP or a video, etc..... When I say I like something and it's ROM... it is just that! Meaning I think it has the potential to be good.... Can I test every freakin thing? Hell no!

          Make sense?

Sometimes you just have to trust my eval and opinion... I think it usually proves to be good? Well at least I hope it does?

But I always say this! An opinion is worth what you paid for it.....
So it is what it is....

Does the Imito QX1 have a heatsink? It would be great if you post a picture of the inside it you ever open it.

The latest beta does not support 1080p. Read that for 4.2.2 there should be a firmware update for 720p and another for 1080p.

Thanks Hsogotaq. That's awesome to hear that 1080 is coming. I haven't got the QX1 yet so that's something to look forward to. I just installed a 1080p ROM on the Tronsmart MK908 and its working great so far. The visuals are awesome.

                  Thanks,

FYI, the current stock 4.1.1 does however already support 1080p.

All the stick support 1080P. But understand if the kernel is native 720 then when you set to 1080, it is upscaled and thus not truly 1080P.

Some people want true 1080 pixel resolution. Why I am not totally sure as I cant tell the difference. But they do.

I use the stick as a real mini pc hooked to a 1080p computer screen with real keyboard and mouse. 720p upscaled text and controls look awful, while native 1 to 1 pixel ratio looks crisp. It drains little power and can be kept on all the time.

These devices can do web browsing, email, light office work (notetaking at very least) and even android programming with AIDE.

The standard chinese sluggish NRAM sucks big time though. It is a shame nobody posts benchmarks of the internal NRAM speed on reviews, other than the horribly inaccurate Antutu read/write speeds which are wrong.

EDIT: I use 2dark4u's overclocked kernel (1.4GHz CPU, 433MHz GPU). Stock 1GHz kernels are very slow at 1080p on rk3066 devices. I expect the QX1 to be a noticeable improvement at 1080p over my mk808.

First time posting here on freaktab but I tend to troll around on XDA.

Video playback via Plex and VLC is decent. Sadly I updated the latest beta which is 720p so I dont no how it will be when the future 1080p firmware is out.
