OMG - BEST video performance I have seen yet! CX-919

OK folks, I started today to play with the CX-919 3188 device. The ROM is 4.1.1 so you know.

So let me tell you this... I am not sure what they have done but this ROM has ZERO and I mean ZERO frame skipping in Netflix or any other videos I have tested!

The ROM has other problems, but for sure the BEST video playback yet!

I now have to see if it is the kernel or the system. I plan to try and port this ROM to other 3188 sticks.

I feel we have a WINNER ROM here folks....

Now.... I have been working for DAYS... seriously DAYS... to try and figure this frame skipping issue out. Now I have a ROM that has no issues. I need to find out why!

So, stay tuned.... it's just a matter of time now until I nail this!

If you over clock it to 100% 1.6mhz, it gets too hot. However stock it runs warm. I watched 2 movies last night with no overheat. The CPU governor seems to do a good job.

So, is this just an update to the t428 from tronsmart with a different wifi chip? Sorry, I have been lurking in here for about a week to try to choose a stick (like many others I am sure). Basically I am between this and the T428. I have 5Ghz wifi at home so that appeals to me. But the most important thing is video playback. Does this stick support webcams like the MS lifecam?

Sorry I know this is one of the newer sticks on the market and people might not have had time to play with them yet.

Flawless netflix is a big deal for many though.

              Keep up the good work.

Bob, are you testing also BT - how works?
And still one question, are any devices with quadro core/dual core supports the A2DP via BT?

                  CX-919?

Today I just received my cx-919 stick but the video performance for 1080p is the very same or worse over it's wifi than T428 finless 1.5a ROM. I do not see any improvement.

The video performance is smooth on microSD but all the other ROMs ( finless 1.4a or 1.5a) run well from microSD card on T428.
HBO GO freezes most if the time when I start to play certain movie ( sometimes only jitters) So far I thought that the wifi throughput is not enough but it seems there are other not so obvious problems with RK3188.

Re: OMG - BEST video performance I have seen yet! CX-919

If all of these devices are built on the same SOC, then what accounts for the wide variations in performance? Is it the stock ROM on the CX-919 that makes it good? If so, how easy is it to port that to the MK908? Do they all use the same flashing tools? Does the 919 have the same WIFI & BT as the 908?

they pretty much all use the same flashing tools. the main SoC is the same between them all unless rockchip already has revisions on the rk3188. given if they all use the exact same rom, the only things that can be different about the units is : Hardware- different board layout, component config and quality, different accesory components like BT or wifi, different processor cooling: Software- same exact rom, then the only thing that can be different is the bootloader and the kernel/ramdisk. kernel controls low level device drivers as well as providing the base OS layer that the android platform runs on. Ramdisk is just the folder structure of your root android os minus the system folder, data folder, and sdcard. and the bootloader is just there the kickstart the device and get it to loading the kernel.

Curse you Finless!! Just as i thought i have narrowed my list of mini pcs down after watching ur video on the inner guts of three sticks were you say that the cx 919 has a very bad heat sink, you go ahead and say things like this! LoL
So ur opinion on the cx 919 has changed? It turns out the simple heatsink does a good job after all? And how about local movie playback? Is it better that the other mini pcs as well or did you notice an improvement in netflix only?

A little Off-topic, but any particular reason that a 3rd party heatsink seems to not be an option?

I just got my CX 919 yesterday. I have the MK808B before and was not happy with the choppy playback. I hopped that the CX 919 wold do the job as Bob was happy with his ex.
To my disappointment my ex was delivered with Android 4.2.2 and has even worse choppy playback then the MK808... Netflix is just "meh!" I'm thinking about flashing it back to 4.1.1.
As in all the other cases the playback is smooth when I move the mouse. I hope our good Bob fix this =)

                            Just my two sentence.

I was thinking a little - now this has likely been covered, but if not; could this be a thread priority issue? I'm not quite sure how the video overlay works under Android - but wouldn't thread priorities be affected when you move the mouse? Theres both I/O data and video overlay (pointer) going on...
