so, first one - good, second one - not good?

    ok, problem solved, hdmi solved.
    haha, yes exactly

By the way, I have following in-ears which does work only if you pull it out 1mm and hope for the best

    Philips SHE9005A/00 Android

now what? how to deal with wifi w/o disassembling it and what about bad casing?
WLAN: I dont know. It depends, someone will be happy and someone not. @Home I am happy, @work not, because every other device had signal and my Pipo not. This is not a real test, of course.
Casing: Maybe I can take some pictures, tomorrow...

    1. If you have a DTS-capable reciever or similar - could you try playing a video with DTS soundtrack, and see if the tablet sends DTS audio over HDMI?
Sorry, I have no DTS System at home

    2. About the 3.5mm minijack issue. Some headsets with mic are designed to be "fully compatible" - the layout of the plug differs. Is the plug of your troubled "android compatible" set really longer than a traditional plug, or does it just have more than 3 connector poles on it? A standard minijack has 3 poles - one for each chnnel and common ground. Sets with mic and/or remote has 4 or more poles (poles are separated by a small plastic ring).
I will take a picture of both working and not working pluggs, tomorrow. Of course, normal pluggs will always work.

It is not necessarily as simple as that. Some "boxed headsets" use the same layout on the plug, but the end "shaft" towards the plug rubber/lead is extended (usually 3mm longer than usual). The usual scenario for this is that the mini jack socket on the phone/tablet is recessed in the frame/bezel of the unit - too deep for a traditional length mini jack plug to fit. So in order to cut costs, and still use standard 3.5mm minijack socket in the main unit, they just produce cheap, in-box (typically in-ear) headsets with an extra long plug shaft.

If you're to "trim down" a traditional mini jack plug to fit a unit like this - then you might have to file down the metal ring/plate at the bottom of the plug shaft in addition to trimming away some rubber. usually you don't know how much there is to go on, in terms of metal and rubber - until its too late. So if anyone considers this route, I suggest getting a cheap, short 3.5mm - 3.5mm "slim jacket" adapter - and try it out on this instead of your headset. In this case - if you mock it up, your headset is still untouched.

Also - beware adapters / headsets for Iphones. These usually switch the 2 inner poles (furthest towards the lead). These may fit the socket, but the connections for mic & ground are switched.

Hmm I think Viki talks about micro-usb and Pr0** about headphone pluggs

Hahah, late hours - my apologies. But I'll just leave it for now - until we have atleast a visual comparisment of "standard" mini jack and the "troubled" mini jack - it could turn out to be useful

It does touch on relevant issues regarding "fitting" a standard Micro-USB plug to the deeper socket though. When you start trimming away plastic/rubber on the standard Micro-USB plug, you don't really know how much "extra material" you have, until you've cut too much.

Could someone measure exactly how much longer than standard, the included Micro-USB plug - really is? And, please check the number of pins in it. There could be some compatible adapters out there that doesn't need "fitting"

            Pipo M8 Pro 4.2.2 RileyROM 1.5

I can actually use many standard micro USB cables on mine without difficulty.

Is this the case with both micro usb sockets? If this is the case, maybe we could find a less bulky OTG adapter (Angled, small plug with short wire etc)...

I've been reading the recent posts with interest regarding the audio quality of the M8 Pro. First of all, the speakers are excellent. A little distorted at highest volume but this is more than loud enough. I can compare these to the other tablet I owned - the Onda V972. The speaker on the Onda are shameful. Absolutely shameful. It beggars belief who gave this speaker the go-ahead because it destroys what is otherwise a fairly decent tablet for the money. Not only are the speakers nowhere near loud enough, the sound quality is really, really poor. Anyway, enough about the Onda!

I was very interested to try my good quality headphones on the M8 Pro. I used a Music app called Deezer and played a track from the new Daft Punk album. I used the exact same app and the same headphones on my phone - HTC One X - and compared the two.

Firstly, I don't think there is anything to be too concerned about. The audio quality is absolutely fine. The only real difference between the two is that the HTC One X was more bassy, most likely due to the Beats Audio equalizer. Beats Audio tend to favor high bass. This is nothing particularly to do with the sound quality - more so how the equalizer is set up.

Riley - you mentioned that in your experience that the background music was over-powering the dialogue of the video you were watching. Just out of interest, have you tried any of the free equalizers you can get on the App Store? There's a couple of them in particular that are really good. I'm sure these will help a lot.

The only small gripe I have is that my video playback is not as smooth as I would like it to be. What I mean by this is that the motion is a little too choppy. Again, I compared this with the Onda v972 and the Onda had much smoother video. This was using the exact same video source. Perhaps this is a driver issue? I've still not flashed to the RileyRom 1.5 but I plan to very soon, so hopefully that makes a difference.

                    Pipo M8 Pro 4.2.2 RileyROM 1.5

If you are still using the stock firmware you have to realize that Pipo has updated about 5 times since the initial release. The last update was to fix Netflix playback. I am noticing improvement with 1.5.

I think my audio issues were due to an incompatible plug. I tried the stock plugs. They were too muffled. Then I tried a high quality set that really sounded good. I have no audio problems at all.

it is hard to say "cut 1.2mm of rubber". simply because there is so many different cables, qualities. on one cable i removed almost 2mm and there is still enough rubber and no risc of exposing wires of cable. on other cable that i wanted to cut for my friend i cutted just one mm or maybe less (it is impossible to measure exactly) and i cutted inner shield of cable. and after that what to do? of course i gave him my cable and this i managed to cutt more, expose all and glued with hot plastic. it is ugly to see, but it working. but i didn't worked with original. it is on safe place.

that is needed for android box, and i really do not understand why they doing such things...

so, pr0xZen, or do nothing and keep original cable on safe, or cut very thin slices.

i'll try to find on **** or some other store are there available those longer micro usbs.

I guess, as a safety, one could get a short micro-usb female to micro-usb male adapter cable (like a really short extension cord), and trim the plastic/rubber molding on that one...

If you would be so kind, could you measure the lenght of the metal plug, on the original charger? Then atleast we'd have a reference point. And if you're able to count connector pins in the plug, that would be equally great

on original otg adapter, but, this is from another device, just to be clear, metal plug is 7.40mm(7.38 to be exact).

plug is 5 pin. but, that is standard munber of pins in those adapters.

Just recieved the M8 Pro - really excited. BUT! ... is there any trick to turning it on? I feeling both potensially stupid, and really let down. The screen comes on when connecting the charger, and shows the charging animation for 10-15 seconds or so. But there's no reaction to the power button, no matter how long I hold it. Been charging for about 1 hour now. I don't really feel any "click" in it either, if you can call it that on this type of buttons. Should there be? I've tried pushing it down with a pen (fat fingers) as hard as I dared without risking damage - still nothing...

                              How are your power buttons?

This tablet does seem to take longer to come on than others I've tested...but it eventually does after about 10 seconds.

Try plugging in a USB cable and attach it to your pc. It is supposed to power up then.

Was it that way right out of the box?
