Was it that way right out of the box?

Been holding and fiddling with the button for far longer than 10-15 seconds. I've tried connecting it to several usb ports on my win7 netbook, no reaction. Tried both in "usb" and "host" port. Do I need the drivers installed or some application running for this? Could you be so kind as to try it out? I'm pretty much flying blind here - totally bummed out

On a second note, I noticed something on the back of the tablet:

It looks like the corner of the back cover is "bent inwards" a little bit, and theres a gap.. you can clearly see the "side" of the power button in the gap. I have a suspicion that the bent part of the cover is either blocking the travel of the button, or has damaged the internals of the switch.

      Looks like that's your trouble.

You need to contact your supplier and get it exchanged.

Thats what I feared. Last time I had to return something DOA to China, was a 2 month+ godforsaken nightmare

Did you try the booting by connecting USB thing? I can't get it to work. guess I might need drivers, but seems I have to be able to boot it before I can do that... If I could establish that the button was the problem - I might be enclined to open it up and try to ben back the corner myself. I rue going through another one of those nightmares ending up depressed just by thinking of checking my email :S

Yes it seems more worth the risk to open up and see what you can do with the switch.

I'll give it a little wait first and see what the seller says regarding returns - it has no indications/marks from getting dropped, knocked or bumped - so looking like this would clearly be a manufaturing error. My button is about 1/2mm recessed in the hole, and a little bit ascew. Looking on other pictures, it seems it supposed to stick out a tiny bit.. (?)

Yes, I just compared the picture to mine and you do have quite a gap. My power button sticks out a bit and when you press it it travels to even with the case. It definitely isn't recessed.

Thanks Randy. This, the visible gap, and the fact that there is no minute sign of scuffing, denting, scraping or dropping (the small crack seems to "come from the inside", not having completely cracked the plastic all the way through to outer shell) - all point to manufacturing/assembly error. Starting to think the button is probably damaged or snapped from the mainboard inside. From the pictures online of disassembly - there is no room for this "relocation", doesn't really seem possible without damage to button and/or mainboard.

Hopefully the seller is more compliant with a manufacturing fault. I'm considering ordering a new one right away, then argue for a paypal refund or a replacement to sell locally.

Mine has just arrived and I took the back off last night. It's quite noticeable that you need to be careful about inserting that corner first, placing it around the power switch, when replacing it. The back comes off very easily - just run a guitar pick vertically around the edge to click the 'hooks' off the bezel.

I did not know that the back can be dismantled so easy
Maybe you can give me one or two more tips how to do it? I would try it later.

Just lay it down flat, start at the bottom edge and push the guitar pick in and along till the hooks click apart. You might want to hold the gap open with something thin and plastic. Note that the screen, even though it feels hard, does in fact bend. The aluminium back is very rigid so pushing the screen up against the back with the side bezels still clicked in will definitely bend the screen. If you don't have guitar picks handy it's best to get some rather than use anything fat or soft (or metal).

I checked Pipo's soldering with a magnifying glass and it looks very good Unlike Ainol and others who have had big trouble with poor quality control on basic things like soldering.

Thanks alot I couldn't find any guitar pics, but I got the cover off with a few plastic "credit cards". I trimmed the corner of one of the a little bit thinner, and carefully levered one clip at a time - putting the credit card 1/3 in when I had opened enough room (to keep the gap open). There are clips about 1-2 cm from each corner side and along the edges - once you get a full side and a corner, its a breeze. But be patient - the back cover is metal, but the surrounding frame is plastic.

Unfortunately, there wasn't much in there I could do. I'm not quite sure how the power button is supposed to make contact or look like (as I have nothing to compare to), but mine was sort of loose, and did not seem attached or soldered to anything. Neither was there any "spring" to it, if I push it in, it just stays in - doesn't "spring" out again. I'm thinking either its broken, or it wasn't properly assembled.

It's a long shot - but if anyone takes of their back cover - could you attempt a close-up picture of the button area?

                            Pipo M8 Pro General discussion

A wide diversity of questions, information and discussion regarding the Pipo M8pro has been developing, particulary in the ROM threads - so I thought it would be a good idea to establish a "General discussion" thread for this tablet.

Personally, I ordered mine from TinyDeal because I've ordered alot of nick-nacks from them earlier, and had some store credit there to spend. Price was about ~230 USD, plus shipping if express. I wouldn't recommend them though - as mine seems to have been incorrectly assembled or damaged during assembly, so they are clearly too sloppy in regards of testing units before shipping them. I also recieved a phone earlier from same webshop with defective microphone. Both times return/repair/replacement has been a straight nightmare - so I would recommend you avvoid them for anything expensive.

My impression is that Geekbuying is a good and respective alternative, and that they inspect units before shipping. Also, one of their "upper staff" is an active member of this forum (Geekbuying)
