      Some additional testing ensued.

There is an issue with the box obtaining an IP address with ethernet and always shows as not being connected, resulting in me having to restart my router to obtain one.
This does not happen with any other box, so definitely isolated to this one.

HDMI Self adaptation does work in this firmware but not as expected.
It simply makes video look darker when played in Kodi, although not so in the stock player.

      Kodi

Not surprisingly, auto adjust refresh rate does not work, as is the ace with every new AMLogic device at the moment.

Playing my gamut of test files from a Sandisk 64Gb SD card results in everything that it should play playing very well indeed, with great colour reproduction.
However, there is still a very slight shimmer to most files and whilst is very tiny, it is still noticeable and I'm sure that the lack of auto adjust refresh rate is the cause of this but it is so close to perfection across the board.
HDMI passthrough works fine with AC3 and DTS, with only the first play of a file showing audio clipping. But after the first time, every other file plays the audio flawlessly.
I did note that in the firmware settings that when allowing the settings to choose the default audio source, whilst I am used to seeing HDMI passthrough being selected, this time PCM is selected as the default but manually selecting HDMI does work.

Streaming the same test files through 5Ghz Wifi showed no buffering except for the very high bitrate files (160Mbs), which are going to be unrealistic things to play on a daily basis.

Streaming through 2.4Ghz WiFi is generally smooth but as can be expected from practically any box , there will be some buffering from time to time with high bitrate files. Again this is not something that should be an issue for most needs.

Youtube works as well as I have seen in any of the recent AMLogic boxes with near perfect playback at 720 and 1080p.

Now that things are settled and configured I no longer see any of the UI lags that it was suffering from before.

Apps generally load and run efficiently and playing a few basic games such as Beach Buggy Blitz is smooth and very playable.

With this box having a plastic case, rather than the metal of the Acemax M12N, it was going to be interesting to see how hot it may get after prolonged use but after 8 hours of continual use, it hardly got warm.
The slightly more raised base and the little slits in the back of the case have clearly contributed towards an efficient dissipation of heat.

Overall I am very impressed and the mods that have been made by people on here have clearly been implemented into the firmware.

Comparing it to the equivalent Acemax M12N, at the moment this is the better choice but I suspect that when running the same level of firmware, both would be equal, except for the fact that the Yundoo has gigabit ethernet, wheras the Acemax has 100Mb.

A few bugs to be fixed, as is the case with any new box, with auto adjust frame rate being the top priority. Only then will there be a chance to see if video playback will be improved just that little bit more to make it a box that will keep pretty much everybody happy.

Now that initial impressions are complete, next up I will be capturing some action on video to further demonstrate it's capabilities.

Perhaps using the 2016-09-27 build from amlogic and modifying it to work with your box might help? The default Yundoo firmware is from 2016-08-11.

Thanks. That is something that I will certainly look at should it have the necessary improvements that are required.

I would say that they are pretty much equal but of course any WiFi performance will differ based upon distances, obstacles, interference, routers and other equipment,

Of course! But i know that not all the wifi antenna has the same performance used in the same conditions. For example external antenna is better than internal as you can easily see comparing wifi test.

If anybody like me does a fresh start with Kodi but would like the skin that came with the bundled one, it's here in this repo zip file.

Looks like there was no status bar before then.

The Yundoo had it and full root support and firmware is just a few days older than this.

Checked for update but nothing at the moment.

Is auto adjust frame rate setting working for you?

I have noticed that CEC control is all over the place and there is no option in the firmware to turn it off.

HDMI handshaking can also be a problem, meaning that when switching on the box I have to out the TV into sleep and then wake up in order to see the UI.
