    1.5 ROM is coming!

    A BIG thanks to Petrus for helping me script some stuff I think you guys are going to like.

    So what is 1.5 ROM?
    Well it is my 1.4 ROM with super speedy enhancements and a TOTAL DEBLOAT of apps. I mean there is barely anything left. I had to keep a file manager and a few things that are required! Sorry for the people wanting to loose tts service and phone, I HAD to keep these in or there were stability issues.
    This ROM will NOT even have the Google Play Store pre-istalled!!!!!

    However, as part of the ROM kit, FreakTab member Petrus has been helping me script an APP install kit. What this will do is allow you to decide WHAT to install and what not to.

    So you say... BIG DEAL right?

    Well, understand NAND memory fragmentation (like hard disk fragmentation)! Removing apps and installings apps into /system leaves it fragmented! Heck much of this stuff also leaves /cache and /data framgented to hell!!!

    So this kit after flash will have basically NOTHING installed. Then you run Petrus' script and install what you like. This includes:
    Google Play Store if you so desire (no Market is in this ROM)
    Google add-on apps
    Default "Philly news paper Apps"
    Default Arnova apps

    Now understand what will be going on behind the scenes! The apps will be copied directly to the left over open ROM space. NO FRAGMENTATION! It will be like they were in the ROM to begin with! They will also be SYSTEM Apps... that is, they are protected by /system. They will be JUST LIKE the stock ROM for default apps too! That is they will be installed properly and YOU THE USER gets to decide what you want.

    I think this is going to be awesome honestly! I think you guys are going to love it.

    So stay tuned... The team is getting close now and I expect my release for the 10G2 this coming week. Other ROMs to follow after that

    Oh and a side note....

    I have COMPLETELY SOLVED the limited apps BS in the Google Play Store! I SPENT HOURS FIGURING it out and I think I have it 100%!!!! No need for arctools, reflashing, cache clearing, file deleteing BS!

    Google Play works out of the gate. Again, no more BS of clearing cache, factory reset, reflashing, etc because you have limited apps listed in the market! That is completely solved now! (well at least as far as I can tell as I have not run into it now in 30+ reflashes of a ROM). However, the apps listed are still limited to the device like always. BUT again no more troubles getting Google Play to work properly.

    So again.. stay tuned... this is going to be my best ROM ever I think

    Petrus is a scripting GENIUS! His work will be part of making this ROM work for you all and allow you to customize as YOU see fit!

        Hello Bob/Petrus,

        I'm interested in how you're doing this, outside of the context of this ROM. Is this something that's been covered somewhere else? Also, it seems like this requires a rw system.img, so it would have to be ext3/ext4 rather than cramfs, right?

        Personally, I've been going back and forth on which I prefer for my own use, and I haven't yet found the major advantage of an ext3 rw system. Maybe this is it?!

          Have you used any of my ext4 ROMs? They should boot in 1/2 the time than ext3 or cramfs.

          Yes the script to inject apps requires /system is rw.
          I have yet to find a way to get the new Google Play to work when installed in /data/app

                This sounds awesome! Can't wait for the Nextbook 7 version. Is there a way to build into this rom a way for the Play Store to view the NB7 as an actual tablet? I'm tired of having the store give me a message "this app is not compatible w/ your device" then after searching out the .apk and manually installing it, to find out it works fine. Or is there something I can edit on the tablet myself to fix this?

                  Yes. Since you are rooted you can edit build.prop.

                  In that file is ro.fingerprint. This tells Google what kind of device you are using.

                  ro.build.description=rk29sdk-user 2.3.1 GINGERBREAD eng.hwg.20110913.192033 test-keys
                  ro.build.fingerprint=rockchip/rk29sdk/rk29sdk:2.3.1/GINGERBREAD/eng.hwg.20110913.192033:user/test-keys


                  Search youtube for other fingerprints you can use. I saw a video the other day giving examples.

                    by reading all of this, i got a sensation i cant explain...

                    wow! your totally amazing bob, i think everybody is so much excited of these updates from you and i cant wait for the arnova 7b g2 "C" to come out as well..thanks to you bob for the "FUN" work you spend and also to petrus for helping out bob!

                      Hello Bob,

                      I did use your 1.4 release, which I believe was ext4. I didn't do any timing or anything and it looked great overall. I'm not as concerned about boot time differences though. The functionality mentioned in this thread catches my attention, as it might better fit some uses I have in mind. Maybe not though. I think building a custom system.img is not a problem, I liked the idea of the injection. When does the script run, btw? Is it something that runs on the device after it's booted, something in adb, or neither? Just generally curious :-)

                        Looking forward to try this new peace of art. It'll be nice if you could offer different types of launcher in this script. For example: stock launcher, stock launcher with a transparent statusbar or honeycomb look launcher (like in Morka's ROM). Should I wake up now?

                          Yes I am right now trying to figure out how to make it run on first boot. We all know on first boot the Arnova Startup wizard runs and asks you to set time zone, etc. But I have yet to figure out how that is accomplished

                          Working on it but it is hanging me up now.

                          I was just going to give you guys a script and let you run it from sdcard but thats not fancy enough

                              On my ROMs, I've removed the Wizard/StartupWizard and the TSCalibration (amongst others). I know that the TSCalibration is called from the android.policy.jar (located in system/framework). Maybe it's launched from somewhere around there? I haven't tried just removing one and not the other, so maybe this is the wrong path. If it would help you, I could look into it further a bit :-)
