S400 Stock Rom and Unable to flash via PC

I have just recently purchased this model and have run into a rather nasty problem. I had major problems with the stock rom that came with it. It was full of errors and caused the unit to crash and freeze quite a lot. Since I saw that the MK802_IV_NEOTVCR_V1_20130620 Rom had been successfully flashed by another forum member I thought I had nothing to lose as I had already sent a RK906 device back to the manufacturer and had it replaced by this model I didn't want to spend anymore cash. Well long story short the flash went fine and the device booted up into the custom OS. I installed apps and then shutdown the device. I went to reboot it later though and got a NO SIGNAL response from the TV. The device would no longer boot so suspecting that the custom roms boot/recovery program (I'm not an expert by any means!) was either incorrect for this device or corrupted in download I was either stuck in a boot loop or recovery was erroring. So I decided to flash it and try again. Here lies the problem the device no longer gets recognised by the PC. I have tried to use the reset button to flash it but although I successfully installed the driver earlier the PC will not initialise the device. I have also tried it on other PC's in case the driver was the issue but its not even recognised to be installed either. So the only option is to wipe the NAND. Thing is I don't know where the jumpers are on this device to make it happen. Anyone able to help? I'm fairly scunnered now as this device is only a day old and its such a shame as it had a great wifi signal (in the half hour I got to view the device). So in return for your help I have provided links to the stock roms from Cozyswan as shown below:

I also have this stick. I've flashed it about 10 times with different roms, some worked some didn't, but I was always able to get it recognized by the PC. You prob already did, but make sure when you are flashing to take the case off to access the reset button. If you use the reset hole on the outside of the case it won't be able to hit the reset button inside. I also used the 4.2 rooted rom with green sticker from here.

    Good luck.

      Sorted

I finally got sorted, I used Bobs method of shorting pins 8-9 on the NAND and got it recognised by the PC. I now have a rooted 4.2 ROM from chiseltek as this a momi m1 clone it seems. I also got the VPN working but alas hulu is still being a stinker and just buffers like everyone else. Netflix is a weird one, it crashes after two mins but plays fine when I'm simultaneously logged in on my galaxy tab 2. So all is good.

hello erin, which port are you pluggin in for your S400 for USB to the PC?

Which program do you use to flash?

        Thanks for this post

ah i got it, now i am in mask rom mode hahaah.

incase anyone else needs the info:

so for the s400 cozyswan you use the side port near the microSD just like on the Bob NAND reset.

you literally go 8-9 pins down on the left side of the chip facing towards you.

while shorted, plug in USB while its shorted, also looks like you need the drivers installed.

finless rom flash tool 1.37 is the application i am using.

          Now is detecting.

going to try your roms now.

Most likely you used the wrong Rom! The same happened to me. Despite having a green spot sticker inside the device the Rom that actually worked was the rooted 4.2 version for the model without! Just reflash to Mask mode again (incorrect Rom nerfs the reset button) and try again. Also this version has Netflix working fine. Using tun.ko loader and easy open vpn conifg apps will also get VPN tunnelling working. Though at present this is useless with hulu plus and other US based TV apps as the DRM or HDMI output is still the most likely reason these apps remain in an endless buffer or error result. Have tried various ideas to get them working with no success.

Oh and a paper clip is your best friend for shorting these pins! Just strip of one end of it and jam it in between pins 8 and 9 on the NAND (located on the side of the motherboard covered by tape and not the heatsink") and wham bam you got it recognised by the PC. Only do this method though if you've flashed an incorrect rom. Other times the reset button should work a treat.

Meant to ask too. Has anyone got the 4.1 Stock Rom for this device. Would love to see if hulu or the CW works on this with a functioning VPN.

I have been looking into how well the VPN works at present and after accessing the google play store in the US via the VPN downloads speed is very erratic and fluctuates widly. Could this be a reason as to why hulu and other apps from the US don't stream correctly? VPN setup is flawed?

yeah i solved my issue, have tried countless roms for the s400, nothing has yet to work for bluetooth and wifi both working on 4.2.2 or 4.1

erin i will link some 4.1 you can try.

                          Dear dvfd9
I see you are in too much trouble.....
Why don't you try this one..., even I tried so many custom roms but the Rom that is stable of all is this one http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shar...&uk=2134144741..., video at 720P is very smooth (the ones I have tested so far)..., only problem I have faced with it is bluetooth audio and headset profile not working properly... By the way I too have cozyswan s400 stick bought a month ago....Hope it helps.....

You can try this one if you have new wifi chip in your stick

What wifi chips do your S400s have? Mine has come with the RTL8188ETV which I believe may be the reason we have problems with most ROMs. Most RK3188 devices have relatek 8189 or AP6210 wifi chips. If you find a ROM+kernel that works with this device please post here.

Try to use neomode rom for the first mk802-IV released, it has almost the same wifi chip (I think it shares the same wifi driver)
