Kodi 17 can passthrough DTS as long as the firmware on your device is supporting Android 6.0 (Marshmellow) *and* adheres to the official Google API23. To date, NONE of the S912 devices can handle DTS correctly. We need a firmware update and I fear we won't get one but I'm hopeful. You have three options.
1. Go back to 16.5.5 (if you are on Android 5.0+) - as this version has the pcm hack that allows DTS to work
2. Get a custom build of KODI called "shitty" which imports the pcm hack from 16.1 Jarvis - that allows DTS to work
3. Get KODI 17 and transcode DTS to AC3 so at least you get AC3 output.
I'm currently using #3. Be aware #2, while DTS is enabled it skips ever so slightly every 10 seconds making it unwatchable for me. This is on my XPLAYER S912 Octa core ARM53 CPU (But I have heard all the S912 chipsets have this problem and with current firmware the worst to work with Kodi)

The way passthrough audio works has changed between Jarvis Kodi 16.x and Krypton 17.x.
Jarvis uses a "hack" that passes the stream raw and let's your AVR figure out what to do with it. The Kodi team discovered that this hack has the potential to cause the sound to be hurtful to the ears and speakers so it has been removed in 17.
in Krypton they worked directly with Google to implement API23. This requires a "working" Android 6.0.1 firmware. I say "working" because all default firmware on S912 devices are poorly coded and don't implement API23 correctly thus DTS doesn't work.
So for DTS to work you need an updated/functioning firmware (then it should work with API23), or you transcode DTS to AC3, or you use a custom build of KodiI which back ports the hack in 16.1, or you use FTMC.

ts ok by kodi 16.1 no dts problem, csa93 was ok out of box, yoka tv got well after firmware update, first there was cutting on sound
i try sometimes kodi 17 hoping it would be better, maybe passthrough hd audio, but still dts and subtitle problems on it
so i keep using kodi 16.1, its fine passthrough dts and dolby digital on both boxes

Strange.
I have Evolveo H8, chip AArch64, Android 6.1, API 23.
I tried very many softwares and files for passtrough.
F.e. MXPlayer plays DD+ 7.1 well, Archos crashes. Kodi and forks play it as only DD 5.1
f.e. MXplayer plays DDTHD as PCM 2.0, Archos plays it DDTHD 7.1 well, Kodi and forks play it as only DD 5.1
all players play DD 5.1 OK
all players play DTS HDMA 7.1 as DTS 5.1 only
all players play DTS 5.1 OK
all players play AAC 5.1 as 2.0
I think API 23 is the same, the firmware too
Kodi and forks I mean no version 17, in this version all is as PCM 2.0 played, on the same machine.
In 16 versions I cannot set output as raw, I have only silence, I must set other one(.ITS ? I do not remember)
