    Greetings everyone.

I recently purchased a few Alfawise H96 Pro + 3GB/32GB boxes from gearbest.com and they arrived just a few days ago, and I got them all setup without too many issues, but it appears I am in need of a firmware upgrade, because I have the problem where power off hangs, and refuses to power back on. The first box of this type I purchased from Amazon, and its not an Alfwawise model, but rather the "4K Ultra HD TV BOX" style, and it's power on/off functions normally as it should.

Reading some other posts, seems to suggest there are multple versions of this Alfawise box, the main difference apparently being a DDR3 version, and a DDR4 version. Not knowing which ones I owned, and having to open one up to find out, I went ahead and documented everything as best I could in regards to exactly what gearbest.com shipped me, so I thought I would post all the info here in order to share it with everyone. I'm new to these forums, so if I'm posting this to the wrong place, by all means, please forgive me.

Heres a run down of all the information I have on this unit so far:

You have to open device and look at the main board memory it will tell you on the board (front or back ) if its ddr4.... Looking at photos now

behind cpu heat sinks white lettering says DDR4 you got two extra ports lucky
Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

I believe this was directed at me. Yes, my boxes appear to be DDR4, because the solder mask text says "H96-S912-TVBOX(DDR4)-V0.2"

I was posting all of the information as a general reference for others who own this unit.

Also, I wanted to add, thanks for your video scooter2014 on how to open the unit. I had a little bit of trouble, as my unit was glued with a superglue type glue in the back corners. The glue seperated rather easily, but knowing it was there would have helped bend the plastic tabs a little less, so for anyone else, yours might be glued as well.

            Free sd card, nice.

Since you mention SD card, correct me if I'm incorrect, as I'm still researching the full firmware update procedure, but its my understanding that I can update the firmware using the SD card slot ? and if yes, do you happen to know what size SD card I need, as I'm going to have to pick one up this afternoon while running some other errands to continue down this rabbit hole.

I do have USB flash drives at my disposal, but I imagine those won't work ?

Also, if I do in fact need an SD card, do you know what the largest size that will work is ?

You can I think but usb burning tool only way i use less issues. If i remember correct Super Celerons Atv and Standard android the remote work perfect and just the wifi fix flashed via sd card in twrp. I use fast sd cards for mine. (except when china give me free one in box lol)

I dug through my box of cables, and found a USB Type A Male -> USB Type A Male cable, and tested all of the pins. They match up and are wired straight through, 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4. I setup my spare Alfawise box on a monitor w/ HDMI cable, and plugged the USB cable into a Windows 7 PC, and the TV box powered up.

I've not gotten any driver notifications from Windows at all, which I believe I read elsewhere I should get, but I think it detected the device. Thats as far as I've gotten at this point, still reading and working on it. I also picked up a Sandisk 32GB micro SD card just in case I found myself in need of it.

Down the rabbit hole I go.

Nice took the blue pill. I found that some devices reset pin not matter but its a normal that it does. Open tool select firmware. Then push reset till it clicks (Av port i use wooden match shaved a bit to fit) plug in usb will holding will see it show up on tool as connected thats half the battle done

Well, first few attempts are a dud. I downloaded "SuperCelerons Atv firmware" and tried to flash it, following instructions, and its failing at 7% with the error message "0x30201004 uboot/disk initialize / send command/ error result." I tried both 2.0.7.2 and 2.0.8 versions of the burn tool. I tried a USB 2.0 port, as well as, a USB 3.0 port. When I attempt with the 3.0, I get driver notifications from Windows and it boots into the Android Recovery menu screen, instead of just the H96 Pro + screen I was getting on the 2.0 ports.

Not sure where to go from here ... valuable experience required me thinks. Any advice ?

( Note ... the USB 3.0 port on the computer seems to be what triggers the Android recovery screen and driver errors ... I switched to a back USB 2.0 port and reconnected while holding reset and it stops at H96 Pro+ logo and shows up as connected in the burn tool as I believe it should.. )

Also, I am making sure to unselect "[ ] Erase Bootloader" as per SuperCelerons instructions, and I'm using a short 3 foot or so USB cable.

Hmmmmm 7 percent means it passed. Normally means disconnect. Usb 2 or 4 percent i get... Ok try open flash tool 2.8 load firmware (Check that you have correct super celeron ddr4 firmware heres link) http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...ndroid-tv-ddr4

Then click Start before hooking up alf.. Press reset pin hold plug into usb. Release once it starts. Should start flashing and see better error not 7 maybe 2 or 4 percent or keeps going always hang a bit at 7 because format device.

Okay, here is what I've done, in order, since your recommendation:

                        1) Uninstalled usb burn tool 2.0.7 build 2
                        2) Installed usb burn tool 2.0.8
                        3) Downloaded another copy of SuperCelerons firmware using the link you provided
                        4) Used an MD5 utility to verify the checksums of both the original firmware image I tried, and the one you linked direct too ... both are exact same, and match SuperCelerons instructions.
                        5) Rebooted Windows 7 pc with Alfawise box not connected, just to make sure 2.0.8 drivers were loaded.
                        6) Executed usb burn tool 2.0.8 and changed language to "English"
                        7) Selected File -> Import Image -> SCV1-ATV-GT1_Ultimate ( unzipped SuperCeleron firmware image )
                        8) Un-selected "[ ] Erase Bootloader"
                        9) With Alfawise still disconnected, pressed "Start"
                        10) Inserted mechanical pencil tip into reset button hole until switch clicked, and plugged in USB cable.
                        11) Waited a few seconds, and released reset button.

At this point, Windows 7 displayed a USB driver notification error, claiming it could not load drivers, and the "Android Recovery" screen displayed on the Alfawise monitor.

Suspecting perhaps the rear port I had the device plugged into was a USB 3.0 port, and not 2.0, since this is the same behavior I got when I tried the front 3.0 port, I then:

                        1) unplugged the USB cable, which cut power to the Alfawise box.
                        2) while holding reset button, with usb burn tool 2.0.8 still running, plugged USB cable into front 2.0 port.

Same error. Windows says "Device driver software was not successfully installed" and I get the Android Recovery menu screen.

Thinking I must first hit "Refresh" and have the device detected, I then:

                        1) unplugged the USB cable, which cut power to the Alfawise box.
                        2) pressed "stop" on the USB burn tool.
                        3) while holding reset, plugged USB cable back into front panel 2.0 port

At this point, the "H96 Pro+" gold colored logo displays on the monitor, and the USB burn tool has detected the device correctly, and is displaying "Device ID: HUB3-4" and "Status: Connect success" So then I did the following:

                        1) verified that "[ ] Erase bootloader" is still unchecked, it is.
                        2) verified that "[X] Erase flash" is still checked, and it is set to "Normal erase"
                        3) pressed the start button to begin flashing again

And again, it errors at 7% almost immediately with "[0x30201004]UBOOT/Disk initialize/Send command/Error result"

                        {sigh}

Perhaps since I know how to get to the Android Recovery menu, you could point me to some instructions on using the SD card flash method ?

Also, if there is a linux version of this process, I have linux available on other computers, and could certainly use linux tools to accomplish this task if they are available and less error prone than the windows counterparts.

Well, at this point I'm sort of dead in the water.

I googled around for awhile, browsed Amlogics website, etc ... didn't find any helpful info for what could be wrong with USB OTG method.

Started to attempt SD card / USB flash drive update method, and discovered the *.img firmware files don't work with that method, and I need multiple different files in a non img format ?

Is there any place to get the firmware files that are compatible with the SD / USB update method ?

If there a method to convert the .img files to the SD / USB format ? Can it be mounted via loopback device ?

Update: I'm reading a page now that suggests the "Amlogic Customization Tool" will allow me to unpack the .img file ? Yes ?

                            EDIT:

Finally got firmware flashed. See the link below for details:

Okay, so, after finally getting SuperCelerons "Standard Android" firmware flashed to my Gearbest Alfawise H96 Pro+ 3GB/32GB box, everything seems to be working except for one small item ... the remote control.

I went through the settings, and only saw 2 options, RC 1.0 and RC 2.0 iirc. Right now, I'm using a cheap USB mini keyboard / trackball to work the device, but in order to get all the TVs in the house working properly, they are going to need to be able to use the remotes that came with the units.

If anyone has any tips on where to look for solutions, I'm all ears.

                              Thanks in advance.

To recap, standard USB mice / keyboards seem to be working. Factory supplied remote control doesn't do anything at all.
