Finally Found A ROM - Kernel Combo That Works For Me: CX-919

I've had my CX-919 for a while now, repeatedly mixing and matching kernals and ROMs as stuff develops. Tonight I've found my favorite setup so far.

    ROM:
    T428 Nexus SDK2 Official V1

    Kernel:
    From 4.2.2 Finless ROM 1.4

This is the only combo I've come across that enables all of the features I feel that I "need". I live here in an apartment and need to keep the volume down late night, so I use a pair of bluetooth headphones in order to stay quiet while still being able to hear things throughout the apartment. Every combo I tested until tonight would make my bluetooth headphones severely impact WiFi, they would work perfectly fine on games and downloaded videos but would throttle Netflix streams causing them to buffer for 10 seconds every 60 seconds or so which was completely unwatchable. Now I'm able to stream Netflix in HD with no wait times without it affecting audio in any way. Hulu Plus works perfectly as well, many of the combinations I tried would refuse to play the ads and Hulu would close but now I can watch things just fine with or without the headset.

Antutu scores are at 15700 in landscape and 17200 in portrait which is the best I've seen, WiFi tests are showing my network speed at the same values with or without bluetooth turned on and my headset connected. After repeatedly running various benchmarks I'm seeing no heat issues. I imagine it won't play 1080p videos as well without Strauzo's MK908 kernel but to me it was a fair trade for the seemingly stable WiFi and Bluetooth performance. I'm missing features I want from Finless' ROM such as the ability to change output resolution, the "hide taskbar" icon and having "back" mapped to my airmouse's right button but Strauzo's Nexus ROM is clean and fast enough to make that worth it in my case (there are software solutions for many of these issues anyway).

Anyway I just wanted to share my results as I'm currently really happy with them, and I wanted to contribute in case I had any relevant information for others. Only thing I'll be updating for at this point is a new Finless ROM based on the new info from Phjanderson regarding video playback

        download both rom packages.

use the flashing tool that's packaged with the T428 rom. first erease nand, then flash rom. leave everything checked.

then use the flashing tool that's packaged with the finless rom. uncheck everyting except kernel and click flash rom (do not erase nand).

        that's it.

I tried this too.. This is by far the best experience for Netflix and Hulu Plus :-)

Agreed. Seems pretty stable. Seeing some screen fit issues. Is there any way to adjust the size of the display on the screen. Seems slightly too large and losing some information from all edges.

AW: Finally Found A ROM - Kernel Combo That Works For Me: CX-919

Gonna try this aswell! What airmouse do you use? Is it a measy rc 12? Did it work directly after installation without issue?

A general question for flashing addicts

Is there any way to backup the current rom, data etc. J mean on my galaxy 3 i do a nandroid backup from recovery, which i can simply restore if the new rom or whatever is not to my liking.. any ideas?

                finrodize,

ROM flashing is pretty easy with this ROM packs. What I do is backup all apps and system data with Titanium Backup (TB). I flash a new ROM, kick the tires a bit and if I like it, I restore my Apps and app data. If I don't like it, I'll re-flash back to the previous ROM and restore Apps, Apps Data and System Data. System data also includes all your home screen settings, so your labor to get back to your previous ROM with all apps and homescreen settings restored is relatively painless.

Please note, when restoring a TB backup to a newly flashed ROM/firmware release, you should not restore system data as is will/may cause stability/compatibility issues.

                Hope this helps.

Yes sure, i'll backup on my external sd card.
But when I reinstall another rom I'll lose CWM so, after that just reinstall it, put backup into folder again and restore, right?

yes flash cvm Again if lost, then restore from file you place in internel sd, in folder clockworkmod/backup/date (if you saved default) /your files..... if folders dont exist create them or when backing up copy folder clockworkmod at your ext sd or hd so its easy to copy them back to same location

                            Hi Guys,

Just got the Cx919 yesterday. Wanna mostly use it for video, youtube, netflix etc. Dont care too much about gaming. Already read about the youtube issues and it is choppy so not surprised. I followed the guide here which does work great. However can someone explain to me how I get the 4GB File image from Finless to work?

I mean in the instructions it says to deselect all for the finless part except the kernel and thus it installs the 2GB image. When I try to also check the parameter part for the finless and change it to the 4GB Rom and flash it my Cx919 doesn't start anymore. Well I get 4 Tuxes (top left) and thats it. Not sure if it is not possible to change the App space size when flashing a kernel from Finless and the rest from something else.

Probably a very simple answer for someone here.

                            Thanks

P.S. Also the screen zoom function doesn't work for me and changing resolution doesn't do anythng at all. Not sure if thats normal

Anyone having issues with overscan? The edge of the screen (all four corners) is cut off. Any idea how to fix this?

Edit: According to this post, installing the app "Resolution Changer" and using a 15:9 ratio works the best for this ROM.
Edit 2: still getting top notification bar cut off

Also, if you're having issues with your orientation defaulting to portrait, according to this post, change the auto rotate setting in Accessibility options.
