Nextbook 8 HD NX008HD8G Comes with shell root.

I just got one of these and while reading different threads on ways to root this I was messing around in adb shell types su and got the prompt so all I did was use the su and Superuser.apk from motochopper and did this.

    Code:
    adb push su /sdcard
    adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard
    adb shell
    su
    cp /system/xbin/su /system/xbin/su.bak
    cp /sdcard/su /system/xbin/su
    chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su
    cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
    chmod 777 /system/app/Superuser.apk
    exit
    exit
    adb reboot
Rooted no problem. I zipped the two files if anybody wants to try it. You do need a working adb already on your PC Desktop.zip

    Need Stock /system/media/bootanimation.zip for Next8HD8G NX008HD8G

Can anyone provide me with the stock /system/media/bootanimation.zip for the Next8HD8G NX008HD8G?

I need it to finish my flashable stock rom.

    Thanks!

Totally stock at first. I think everyone needs a way to return to stock configuration.

After that, I'll start working on some sort of custom rom. Not sure if it will be a modified stock rom, something AOSP or Cyanogen based, or some other port. Might take a poll to see what people want.

I hve been struggling with editing the boot.img to set ro.secure=0. it says it us a uImage but it always hangs at the unpacking stage. I always get this error. let me know if you have any luck.

          Code:
          >>> boot.img extracted to Image
          unlzma: Decoder error
          >>> Image unlzma'd to Image-ext
-E- No CPIO image found in Image-ext.
./unpack-uimage.sh: 101: cannot open ../initramfs.cpio: No such file
          initramfs.cpio extracted

Look for the unpack/repack scripts for the Ainol series on the Slatedroid website...

Am I correct that we are talking about a Next8HD8G?

What method are you referring to? The in the first post of this thread?

If it didn't work, what went wrong?

Most, and possibly all, current Amlogic based Nextbooks can be rooted with Cydia Impactor.

There is also a modified recovery and flashable root package for the Next8HD8G located here:

More info would help, but I have had some people say that cat worked when cp didn't.

Correct on both. I think anyways, it's the same as what's in the title (Nextbook 8 HD NX008HD8G)

The method described in the first post here has a few errors to begin with but after a little work I was able to get everything seemingly working but when my tablet booted back up I still didn't have root access.

When I tried this method my tablet rebooted into recovery as expected but it aborted the installation, after that it just sat in recovery mode until I chose the option to reboot.

I've never tried the method mentioned in the original post on this thread.

I've never tried the Cydia Impactor method either, but many people have reported success with it.

When using the flashable root install that I provided the link to, you need to unzip the recovery download and place the uImage_recovery on your external SD card. You DO NOT unzip the root download.

If it aborts the installation, you've either booted to the stock internal recovery instead of the modified recovery on the SD card or the root .zip file is corrupted and needs to be downloaded again.

Well, part of it was my own stupidity as I forgot to extract the recovery image from the zip file.

Now the problem is that it's still aborting, unfortunately I am unable to get this thing to reboot into recovery using the button method so I had to use adb but I'm not sure if that forces it to use stock recovery so I'm not really sure where to go from here other than to try Cydia Impactor.

Based on my own experience, I believe these tablets always use the stock internal recovery if you do a software reboot to recovery and that you have to use the two physical button method to load recovery from external SD.

After doing some more research it appears I was using the wrong button combo, I finally got it to install the root package & now it finally says I have root access.

                            Thanks for all your help.

I'm not entirely sure that the button combo is the same on all Nextbook models...
