I have a silver chip 8223

and a realtek chip on this board with model number RTL8211F

i haven't tried it yet. after reading one of the tutorials i found i need to connect the box to my computer to use the USB burning tool so i'll need to go find a usb cable to use first

that is not true , u can try to update over SDCard , maybe better , if you dont have USB .

ok thanks, i may be out of luck backing up my rom. my box is rooted but uses the stock recovery

Well... Actually it is better to have the USB cable ready even if you use SD card method... I managed to "brick" my H96pro+ with SD card method (I did check the right checkboxes, but update failed in the middle and result - softbricked). So I would say, that SDcard "usually" works and USB burning "almost always" works (you might need additional measures, but you'll have the FW installed eventually)...
