    SU app alternatives

I've done it myself and read on here NOT to install the SU app from the play store as it will put your box in a bootloop. So what are we supposed to use in its place to see which app needs root access?

Would like to know that too. How to Root it without worrying about bricking?

As latest GearBest version seem to be out of luck for mod, I would like to at least fully Root it.

I believe the stock ROM comes rooted already, you can install a root checker app to find out safely.

I think you are right about the latest GearBest versions not having a custom ROM in here that works for it. I read that our boxes use a Wisdom OEM ROM which you can find here:
https://mega.nz/#F!8qhRRaYJ!2ZA3VLjvLT6wg0IwsTF27g - However when I try to import the ROM in the USB Burn Tool it tells me it's corrupt...

So I've been unable to use my new box since I received it last month...

Fortunately mine is in working condition, but coz of no firmware or way to flash it, I'm afraid to even Root it as, if I read it right, wrong SuperSU may brick it

ch3mn3y Whatever you do DON'T install SuperSU, I installed it without reading about it here and ended up in a bootloop, not really bricked. Like I said, I think your's is already rooted without installing SuperSU, you just need to check: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ootcheck&hl=en

Or just install an app that request root access like root explorer.

Let me know if you find a custom rom that works for our new GearBest boxes.

Yeah, already found some info about it. But there is no other app for it, so in theory it's "rooted", but practically it's not...

Old SuperUser is too old. Maybe CWM's SuperUser would work? MAGISK is out of the question, or is there a way to get boot.img and than flash it? Maybe is there TWRP which I could use with my Box? One that could be booted without working OS?

ch3mn3y Yes, you can install TWRP on it, in fact I currently have it installed, take a look at this thread and you can see my screenshot with TWRP installed but it won't boot into the system partition, I don't think suoerceleron's rom is compatible with our new boxes.

I installed this rom to get TWRP installed: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...7-wifi-chipset

SCV4 GREEN PCB IMG or SCV7A OTA won't load...Just waiting on rom that will run on our new GearBest boxes....

How new is new? I ordered an Alfawise, for a buddy, at the end of Oct. GearBest Flash Sale....got it three weeks ago. (Did not look inside).
Flashed SCV4 up to SCV7A and Magisk 14.3, I think it may run hot. Buddy does not like how it does not power off by remote, nor the lack of reboot option.
This China Box seems to run great.

Hard to say if You didn't look inside. Latest is S32-v6 one and as it's at least booting for Your mate, than he has other version.

And it's hot coz of OC - both GPU and lower cores of CPU. It have to be hotter.

I would like to use You an Your Box in one experiment. How would You like it?
I boot to Recovery (one from the Rom You mentioned) and made backup of working stock firmware (without FB and Twitter apps as I already uninstalled them).
Would You like to try to restore it on Your Box?

I'm afraid to try it on my own, as there are hundred of possibilities to brick it. And You wrote that Yours is already bricked :P

                    EDIT:
                    Link: https://mega.nz/#!wrhyhSgR!LDLZSp2eM...zWTC7Y5yg7sPSA

Inside of archive is recovery.img I used and TWRP folder created when I used it to backup firmware. If it isn't be seen by recovery You probably will have to start doing backup (than You can cancel it) to make TWRP to create folder with Your devices name (TWRP\BACKUPS\XXX) and than copy Stock 7.1.2 [2017-12-10--11-14-17] there.

Reaper Man Hmm, I bought mine from GearBest about the same time as you did for your buddy. I wonder what in the world am I'm doing wrong? I flashed successfully two different times with SCV4 and it won't boot into Android during this install. I then flashed up to SCV7 thinking it might fix it but still no go. I opened up the case to verify all the hardware:

ch3mn3y I'm trying your experiment right now, I'm a little desperate getting this to work. I'll let you know the results, thanks.

ch3mn3y I successfully restored your TWRP backup and it's WORKING now! Thank you so much! I know it's just the stock image but I'm happy to have it working again.

                          Thank you so much!

...Possibly a TWRP backup of SCV7A with secure the latest improvements.
