oh yes, for sure running a fan beside it all the time is very odd. I just said that it will help determine if heating is indeed the cause of flickering.

It is a heating issue indeed. I took the stick apart, to give it more air, but it was not enough. I took the room tower fan beside it, and when I switched on, in a few minutes the flickering was mostly gone. When I swithced it off, the flickering was back. Thanks for helping me clarify that. Unfortunately now I have to return it.
