    Pipo U8 RileyROM 1.3

Pipo updated their stock firmware for the U8 on 8/22/2013. This new ROM is based on this firmware.

    It is:

    Rooted
    Debloated
    English set as default language
    Google Play Store fixes added
    Init.d support added
    Busybox commands added
    tun.ko added for VPN support

Thanks to Tattman65 for the boot animation
Thanks to Finless for the flash tool
Thanks to Fun for the generic CWM Recovery
Thanks to Pr0xZen for the First Time User's Guide

You might notice some things are different in the ROM kit.

    1. I included the Rockchip Batch Tool as an alternative for resetting you tablet into flash mode. You can also use this tool to flash the stock ROM if you need to, for some reason.

    2. I also included a template for you to build your own CWM flashable ROM. There is a readme file in that folder that tells you how it's done. I would not recommend changing to a different ROM using this feature, it is just a way to re-flash this ROM without having to use PC. You can't change parameter settings through CWM.

    3. The default recovery.img is stock recovery. As an option, I included the generic version of CWM Recovery...you can flash it instead of the stock recovery by just renaming the files...recovery.img to stockrecovery.img and cwmrecovery.img to recovery.img before flashing.

    Enjoy!!!!!!

    Checksum for PiPO stock ROM?

I hope this isn't too oft-topic for this thread. I'm planning to eventually flash your debloated custom ROM. But first I want to test the stock ROM to see if it solves some hardware issues on my unit before its one-month warranty expires. Unfortunately for some brain-damaged reason, PiPO decided to upload a raw file, not a rar or zip. I have no way of checking if my download wasn't corrupted. So I'm wondering if you could provide an MD5 checksum of the stock ROM, since obviously you've successfully downloaded it. Thanks.

The file you downloaded from Pipo is ok. It is just a flashable image file, that doesn't unzip. Just use the RKBatchtool (you can also download it from Pipo, or use the one I included in my flash kit (check the sub folders).

Hi Randy, thanks for this new version of Riley ROM. rockchip batch tool is a good idea, it serve as a back up tool in case the tablet is brick. for the firmware update additional applications were added in the multi function windows and reboot button is also added. compatibility games fixed. WiFi is still the same from previous version. antutu score is 17k+. I didn't use the generic cwm because still it can't control. I still have to wait for the cwm for this tablet. I used 6gb partition as my internal memory. overall works fine for me. thanks again bro.

Pipo U8 Wifi Througput is low

I gave up streaming files from the living room 15 meters away with two wooden walls, Pipo's wifi is just too poor for that.

Unconvinced that a tablet can't even get 1MB/s throughput, I tested the Wifi transfer 1 meter away from my Wifi Router.

I got around 1.8 to 2 MB/s throughput using Samba File Sharing and Lan speed test windows.

Then I tried moving way about 7 meters besides the TV just to see if I can use it to wirelessly stream movies.

I got the same throughput and the signal was full.

Don't mind the IP address it's behind a double NAT.

It's not the 5MB/s I get on my netbook even from from 40-50 meters away but I guess that's enough speed for streaming 480 to 720p files.

To be honest, the wifi portion is disappointing.

Still running on 1.2, my younger sibling would get angry if I wipe the tablet clean again.
Maybe I'll flash by next week or if 1.4 comes out whichever comes first.

Pipo just released a firmware for the M9 Pro, yesterday...it is reported to fix the wifi problem on that tablet. Hopefully, they will update the U8 soon.

I tried downloading their firmware a few times now but their downloads just keeps getting cut halfway.
I tried their Baidu software but I couldn't get past the chinese interface so I'm pretty much stuck with your quality releases hosted in a good server.

If ever they release the same for U8 then I'll skip to your 1.4 then.
So far the Pipo U8 is at least usable at home now with my little sibling gaming on it for hours.

Still can't stop myself for reaching to the nearest netbook or desktop though.
Although that's just me not used to the slow touch browsing on tablets.

As always thx for your releases.

                Hello!
Huge fan of these ROMs, but now with the new multi-window function, I am a bit confused... how do I add apps to the "multi-window-launcher" so I can make a split screen with any app I want? :S

Sorry...I am by no means an expert on the multi window feature yet...but I have seen some excellent tutorials on YouTube.

You might try a different USB cable. Make sure you are using a USB 2.0 port...not 3.0. Also don't go through a hub.

If you are with a black screen...you may need to get into manual flash mode. Here is a link to how to do that...just look up your tablet on the list. http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...ual-Flash-Mode

But when I use other usb cable the red light indicator wont work. Thanks again.
