    Pipo M7 Pro RileyROM 1.6

    Introducing v1.6c

I'm soooo glad that Geekbuying.com sent me one of these tablets to test, because it has been a challenge making this latest ROM. Thanks for your patients.

Pipo's implementation of OTA updates caused the 1.6 version to pop up nagging notifications, and following all of the prompts led to unsuccessful OTA installations.

With this version, I have solved those nagging pop-ups...and was able to implement many more performance tweaks to the ROM. Also, during the process, I discovered we had outgrown my traditional system.img size...so I increased it to accommodate better flexibility within the system.

Also, you will find that I included the main Pipo Launcher as a choice. It requires activation on the first boot...but all you need to do is connect to a wifi network to complete the process.

You can download the stock firmware from their site.

Version 1.6c is based on the official Pipo firmware dated 9/11/13.

    Rooted
    Debloated
    Expanded Ext4 system.img
    Init.d support
    Busybox support
    Google Play Store fixes
Multiple Build.Prop tweaks for better performance
    Disabled OTA updates
    2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12gb user app space parameter files

Thanks to Eric at Geekbuying.com for providing me an M7 Pro to test with.

This time there are three choices. The usual wifi version and 3g version which are totally debloated,,,and a version with all of the stock Pipo apps left in.

There is a trick to getting the Pipo apps activated if you decide to flash the full rooted stock ROM. On first boot, you will be prompted to activate the apps. Go ahead and hit the activate button. It will take you to your wifi settings to connect to the internet. Once you've connected your wifi, reboot the tablet right then by pressing the power button and hit reboot. On the next boot sequence, you will get a black screen for a while with a header at the top...just let this app run (it takes about 5 minutes to activate all of the apps). It will pop up app names in the bottom of the screen for a while, and then eventually it will boot to the launcher choice prompt. You are on your own after that.......

    OH!!!! I almost forgot.

Since people were having trouble getting Skype to work on the previous versions, I did some testing. After I restored all my apps with Titanium, I tried running the Skype app and got nothing...the splash screen just stayed on.

I uninstalled the app and re-installed it from the Google Play Store. I was then able to get the app to run and have a long conversation with Tattman65 without any problems. Both voice and video quality were good.

So that's great news for Skype users.

    Netflix works, too...BTW.

        Hello Randy,

thanks for your hard and good work.

Does your ROM already includes the SDK 2.0 from Rockchip which should boost the overall performance?

I'm not so happy withe the performance of the Pipo M7 Pro Rockchip SOC tablet. I hope that Pipo & you can make the tablet more fluent.

        Cheers.

Wow! My M7 Pro 3G is blazing fast now compared to 1.4

          Thank you!

          EDIT:
          - My tablet crashed when I installed too many apps at once from Google Play.

You are recovery mode...you need to be in bootloader flash mode. Do that by pressing the back button and power button and hold until you see the flash tool recognize loader mode.

Can confirm that tablet crashes when downloading & installing several apps in parallel (with original Pipo ROM)

No, I don't think that's what he means Randy. I am having the same problem. After flashing the new Rom the tablet didn't boot back into recovery. Instead it just booted up into the OS (which is all working fine by the way). When I try to restart it into recovery mode you end up with the android with an exclamation mark. The tablet starts up or restarts into the OS fine, but you can't boot into recovery. You just end up with the android and exclamation mark evey time you try.

Sooooo....what is the reason for booting to stock recovery? What are you trying to accomplish by doing so?

                  I'm just curious.

Now you've confused me. I'm not trying to boot to stock recovery. I'm trying to boot into CWM recovery. I installed the ROM and it didn't boot into CWM recovery as it should. So to get SU working I pushed the reboot icon and chose "Reboot to recovery"". I then granted SU permission and the tablet restarted but ended up frozen on the android with the exclamation mark. Every time I try to get into CWM recovery it does the same. Then I have to reset the tablet to get it to start again.

You should flash the CWM recovery image instead of stock. My rom kit defaults to stock recovery.

All you need to do is uncheck everything but recovery and browse the flash tool to the CWMrecovery.img and flash. You don't need to erase IDB or flash the whole rom.

                        Awesome. That worked. Thanks Randy.

P.S Donated a small amount. It's not much and you deserve more but it's all I can spare ATM. Encourage all who download this ROM to do the same so Randy can continue the good work.

                            Kernel Wakelock

Randy thanks for all your hard work.

I have just installed version 1.6 on my M7 Pro 3g it does seem to be the best ROM so far but I seem to have a problem with a process called USI_LOCK preventing the tablet from going in to deep sleep mode. BetterBatteryStats shows that this process is causing a Kernel Wakelock for as long as the tablet has been booted up. This did not occur in previous versions of your ROM or the stock Pipo ROM.

Any ideas what this process might be?

                            Thanks

This must be a tweak Pipo put into the kernel...maybe a solution to 3g turning off when in sleep mode.
