Generally a TRS(Tip, Ring, Sleeve) connector has three contacts, a left, right, and shared ground. The TRRS connector shown above has an extra ring. Often this type of cable is used for TV box analog A/V jacks, extra ring carries video. Evidently, the TRRS jack on this box carries a coaxial SPDIF connection. Was news to me.

    greetings / gefattern
This is what I am running.. They sort of custom made (for me.?) ... To "recover" my box.

I wondered if it differed from the Dec '18 fw?
I thought it maybe contained some completed tweaks, that were planned to roll out this month?... With A8.
But it could be just a sd format of December's pc flash updater
    Anybody know for sure?

So your receiver/ amp would have a single input, two channel stereo port?
The small pin shown carries L, R, and a ground for each?
    Is a what I see

Interesting, I also did not know SPDIF was available on some TRRS jacks. Good to know.

The above shown cable looks very promising. Saw it on on GearBest so I will order one there.
Thanks for the tip. My cable supplier didn't seem to know that such a cable exists (nor did I).

I will let you all know if this cable works on my receiver..

I do not have this box. I assumed the box offered the coaxial SPDIF as opposed to the optical. The cable you show is for a 1/8" TRRS connector and that is most likely analog.. As you stated, coaxial SPDIF cable has a single RCA plug at both ends.
My comments on SPDIF were of a generic nature, not this box specifically. I have not seen an 1/8" TRRS connector that supports SPDIF, would be news to me..
I see Trebor has posted a cable that uses 1/8 plug for SPDIF. Learn something new everyday. :-)

As far as I know you have 2 kinds of SPDIF connectors, an optical and a coaxial version. Both have one connector on each side of the cable.
So you're saying that with this cable I'm getting the same "digital" quality as with a real SPDIF connector?

Perhaps I should give this option a try so I can enjoy the full potential of this "great" product you're all writing about.

Both optical and coaxial(RCA) connections are digital on SPDIF connectors. Adapters are available to bridge the two.
Otherwise, the same signal drives both , if you are handy with electronics, it might be possible to physically change the SPDIF connector on your box. Intermediate soldering skills would be required. Hope you get it working.

Welcome! So, your not having other issues? lol
Good! It's about time someone brings good news here.
I just route sound thru my pioneer TV to hi sensitivity speakers , zero complaints, awesome sound.
Can't you push audio the from the tv on to your amp for processing?

    Hi all,

Haven't seen anyone complaining about the fact that this box doesn't have a SPDIF connection though the specs claim it has SPDIF support.
This is essential for me because my good old Onkyo receiver 804E has only HDMI 1.1 support so no digital sound support.

After several mails I got the following mail:

We are so sorry that it is coaxial connector now ,not SPDIF connector,
we changed the connector because many people can not buy the spdif cable
it will be easier for them to buy a RCA cable
We are so sorry for the mistake information mislead you
but coaxial connect can also play 5.1 DTS audio,
just the cable you use is different
You can buy a 3.0RCA Audio Cable to play it.

Probably you won't hear that much difference between an analog or digital connection but I went for SPDIF because my current Boxee Box works OK with that and my receiver.

Seems to me that you could claim that the box doesn't deliver as advertised \ promised.

I think will try to sell this box because I probably wont get my tax / vat back and buying a new receiver for this seems ridiculous.

Good luck guys with all other issues that I can't experience.at all...
