    Pipo U8 RileyROM 1.4

Pipo updated their stock firmware for the U8 on 8/22/2013. This new ROM is based on this firmware.

    It is:

    Rooted
    Debloated
    English set as default language
    Google Play Store fixes added
    Init.d support added
    Busybox commands added
cifs.ko md4.ko and tun.ko added for VPN support
    Performance tweaks added
CWM Recovery added as an option
    2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12gb user app space parameters as an option (default is 2gb)
    Pipo Launcher included
Multi-User support added (but not tested on this device)

Thanks to Tattman65 for the boot animation
Thanks to Finless for the flash tool
Thanks to Fun for the generic CWM Recovery
Thanks to Pr0xZen for the First Time User's Guide

You might notice some things are different in the ROM kit.

    1. I included the Rockchip Batch Tool as an alternative for resetting you tablet into flash mode. You can also use this tool to flash the stock ROM if you need to, for some reason.

    2. I also included a template for you to build your own CWM flashable ROM. There is a readme file in that folder that tells you how it's done. I would not recommend changing to a different ROM using this feature, it is just a way to re-flash this ROM without having to use PC. You can't change parameter settings through CWM.

    3. The default recovery.img is stock recovery. As an option, I included the generic version of CWM Recovery...you can flash it instead of the stock recovery by just renaming the files...recovery.img to stockrecovery.img and cwmrecovery.img to recovery.img before flashing.

    Enjoy!!!!!!

I did enable multi-user on this one.

Since the file sizes are different, I don't recommend using CWM to flash, this time.

Is there a way to keep apps and apps/date after flashing Rom? It would save me time.

I just use Titanium Backup...that saves a bunch of time.

And after flashing rom, restore apps and system data. Or just apps?

I use the "Restore Missing Apps with data" option.

That way, it won't be replacing any of the system apps you just flashed...and add only your apps with the data associated with those apps.

So, after the restore most of your apps will return with the same settings you had saved at the time you made the backup. Not all apps work that way, but a majority do.

When I flash a new ROM (once it gets done with all of the provision stuff) I reboot. Then, all I have to do is go into settings and add my Google Play Store Account and download Titanium. I check USB Debugging in settings. Launch Titanium and direct it to the backup folder on my external SD (Titanium will restart itself). Then, I "Restore Missing Apps with Data".

When I hit the home button, it asks me which launcher to use (I use Apex) and my Apex launcher will come up with my theme/settings intact.

Everything is as stated in post #1.

I did some more testing and tweaking to the settings I was changing. I changed the ko files I was using to some that actually worked.

I also expanded the system.img file to allow some more wiggle room for your own personal tweaks. The last ROM was full...so people were having trouble saving their changes to the system.

                      That's about it.

                        hello randy,

i installed the 1.4 rom and when the tablet booted i saw a message with title "Certificate Center" that needs internet connection to activate product. What is this?

can we found pipo launcher as an apk like nova launcher for example?

                        thank you.

That program has to run once in order to activate the Pipo Launcher. It's required to run any of the apps that came with the stock firmware. Since I've deleted those other apps, it shouldn't take long for this process to finish.

Just choose activate and connect to wifi, then it will clear and you'll be OK.
