BETA testers for ROM for 1.5 Nextbook #1211

Well thats a bummer Miklaus. Is there anything the nextbook guys can do to help? If not the 1.5 ROM will not have this feature folks. We can only do so much without having this tablet.

Unless the nextbook guys can help, I will just release the 1.5 production ROM.

well i am ok with it. since we are able to add the ability via the anycut i find the problem a non issue. Maybe we can add the anycut shortcut into the app injector if someone really wants it ir something to the effect

You can add a built in icon to the desktop by modifying launcher.apk. However I cannot provide anycut as a APP outside of the Google Market as we have to get permission to do that and we do not have that permission.

As for the accounts&sync, any one wanting to put forth a LITTLE effort with anycut, will have sync.

I dont post much, just read. But i did want to thank you for making my/our nextbook p7 's a fun and powerfull toy!!!

As Miklaus said above, he cannot figure out why is mods to settings.apk are not showing accounts and sync settings. He has been able to do this for other ROMs but something else is not allowing him to add it to the nextbook. So no, thats the problem. We cant make it show up!

Unless we can get some help from nextbook owners working with Miklaus, I don;t think we can fix it. You maybe stuck using anycut.

it might be part of the original code that the nextbook people put in to hide it originally to prob keeping it hidden. Its the only thing i can think of. But as said above its great the way it is. If someone really wants the ablility to access account and settings the ability is there.

I don't see this as a major problem. I am able to control the sync on all my Google products thru Gmail, and I use a battery saver app called Easy Battery Saver to control background syncing anyway.

If there is anything I can do to help Miklaus, just ask. This tablet only cost me $99, and I'm willing to use it for development.

Bob this seems stable enough for an official 1.5 release. Not all tablets will be able to support all features of other tablets. You guys have done a fantastic job. Even more fantastic considering you don't have the actual tab in front of you to test on.

Also, I have come across a problem, I have lost the ability to change notification tones on my tablet. It was in Miklaus settings before, but now my only choice is silence or the annoying default noise. I have a feeling this was caused when I removed Google Talk, as this is about the time my problems began. Miklaus, where in your Settings.apk were you pulling notifications and ringtones from, or where they built into the .apk? It has to be something I have done, I'm sure.

Also, I am keeping my eyes open for a used reasonably priced Nextbook 7 Premium to send to Bob since he is doing the only ROM development on this model. Seems Doc and the others aren't moving forward. If I come across one, and if any of you Nextbook 7ers want to kick in, cool. If not, no problem. I'm looking in the $50 -$70 range. Bob hasn't asked for it (in fact Bob rarely asks for anything), but it would sure make his rom cooking a hell of a lot easier if he had his own model to test on.

Let us know it removing Google Talk caused it or not. FYI Talk must be there or all kinds of Market issues can start happening. I tried removing ot in several tests only to find it caused issues. Whats funny is it is NOT part of the standard Google market on many ROMs. So it might have something to do with this not being a phone.

Yep. I've removed Google Talk in the past under various ROM incarnations. It always causes me problems. Why I don't just leave it alone by now, I'll never know. We learn from our mistakes...eventually

I also, installed 1.5 on my 1211, works great, I can select any notification tone I want, however, I still have talk.apk on the device.
Everything works great in fact better than i expected, I was able to download and install the Capital One banking app. I was never able to do that before.
Thanks to all for the hard work. I just wish I had a microphone for this. I downloaded grooveip.apk and can make and receive phone calls using my google phone number. I can hear them but they can't hear me.
Otherwise works good.

Anyway, thanks again. I'm looking forward to the next upgrade.

Great work!

1. I say release it. All I did was use anycut to make a shortcut and it's actually faster to get there.

2. Google talk. When the play update crashed my phone one of the steps that Google said to trouble shoot was to go to talk and make sure I was logged in. If so logout and relog in. Don't know if this means anything, but it's interesting.

Best testers:

We have finished but while I can flash this and make sure it is not a BRICK ROM, we cannot test the features. Please read the README FIRST.txt file in the ROM kit for features and how to use the ROM and APP Injector.

Please test and report the following:

1) Overall ROM Performance and Stability
2) Petrus' App Injector. Did it work and find the package.zip? Did it inject apps properly? Did they work?
3) Miklaus' updated settings.apk. Please try to test all the menus in settings. Let us know what should be removed or things that cause a force close that should work. Your feedback here gives you a better settings menu!
4) Mikalus Clear Status Bar. Does it work and look good and is usable?
5) The WPA supplicant. Does it work like before and give you adhoc?
6) Please try not to report busg that are in the stock ROM. There is not much we can do about them at this time.

Rather than PM people the link I am opening it up to all that want to test as we believe we got it right. But only you guys can tell us.

NOTE: This is built from the stock #1211 ROM.

Why do i get this everytime i try to DL the Beta? I have tried with Chrom and Firefox with the same result. Also Just Tried with IE and the same thing!

Anyone willing to BETA test my 1.5 ROM.

It is still missing the clear status bar and opened up settings.apk but I want to test the debloat and make sure there are no issues and also test APP Injector for the nextbook.

You have no idea how happy this makes me. This Rom allows me Google Currents (witch until now has not worked at all on my Tab and my banks app! ) Happy DAy!

I am an idiot. Notification tones are pulled from Google Talk. I knew this from a test I did earlier on the 1.4 ROM. Of course I forgot, and removed it from 1.5 and lost my notification tones. I reinstalled Google Talk and everything is back to normal. DO NOT REMOVE GOOGLE TALK FROM THE NEXTBOOK! Also, Google Talk is NOT available on the Play Store, and I found the various .apk files floating around do NOT work on the Nextbook. To get it back, I had to do a reflash. The App Injector makes it a piece of cake.

Thinking out loud: wonder why a tablet that is not officially licensed or supported by Google, requires a Google app like Google Talk for so much of its system functionality and stability.
