Not connecting to internet - Any suggestions

I have the Polaroid PMID701C. I am unable to get connected to the internet. I was connected for a short period, but then disconnected. It is going from "Scanning, Connected, Disconnected." I know that I am using the right Password and both are set for WEP. Any suggestions on how to get connected and stay connected to the internet? I am knowledgeable as a user, but not techie.

Static IP?

Apparently some have had luck with putting in a static IP:

I do recall having an older Linksys router that I had a bugger of a time with when we started setting up our wifi in the house. Still works OK as a router, but would constantly drop connection unless I used static IP's.

I do question why you would use WEP over WPA since WPA is a much more secure protocol, for instance this article:

But security issues asside I would think it would connect either way.

Now that I think about it I do have to bump it sometimes to get it to connect and it seems to do better when I toggle the wifi setting on in Network settings rather than the stock widget, but once I get it going it is stable.

Change you router to WPA security and ditch wep, on some tabs wep causes problems
