    this is my old thread:

if you scroll down the post you will see alot of pictures of my device open, both sides.
*this is before the heatsink mod - but it is exactly ontop of the existing preconfigured heatsink.

    thanks

      thanks
Just checked your old thread pics and you can see the wifi chip on the back, the rtl 8188. So its not under the cpu heatsink.

so it is not ok for me to mod this (even for a 5db antenna) without a heatsink?

No its ok, the heatsink for the wifi chip just adds stability.

Hey! I finally received the components

I have desoldered the Antenna Wire in the middle, same for the pigtail and I have soldered them both in the middle.

There is only 1 cable though (I don't see any ground wire), is that normal?

It is a coax cable. There is an interior and an exterior conductor within the outside sheathing. The key is two solder each to its similar mate (inside to inside, outside to outside) without shorting between the two junctions. The outside ground braid has to be unwound slightly and pulled to the side with it's neighboring foil, then the inner core conductor must be stripped to access it.
I soldered the new antenna lead right to the PCB, but linking (splicing) the two lengths end to end might be best solution. It leaves room for error, can be undone, and gives the same result if done correctly.

Yes it`s true, its a coax cable and the outer part is for the ground the iner for the antenna.

Oops. Sorry bout that. Correction noted...

Additionally, I should have used the term "splice" instead of "link". Will edit the post to reflect that.

What I did was cut the existing cable in the middle, the "little" edge of the pigtail (not the RSA one), and 'tied' them together, afterwards soldered on top of that. (Regardless of outer/inner)

I guess that was wrong, because I get less signal now.
If i'd have to gamble i'd say it still uses the remaining parts of the existing antenna cable until the solder point, and then maybe shorts or something...

It does not make ANY change if the 5db antenna is connected to the pigtail or not, exact same signal and speed, so I guess it doesn't use it...

When I spliced the 2 wires there was no outter side and inside... just a lot of little fibers that I rolled together...

Can I maybe have a more detailed explanation?
I don't mind cutting it again and giving it another try.

I did not mess at all with the start of the wire (the soldered point to the board itself), just the end that was connected to the silver "aluminum foil" (:P) thingy, I hope it's ok.

I really need to get this thing working Thanks alot!

                          Update:

I have managed to find the inner & outer parts of the pigtail and make two separate wires from them.

The antenna cable's outer wire though was REALLY weak and was torn from it's base along with the rubber layer.

Where should I solder the ground part on the board to?
                          Is it even necessary?

                          PICTURES ADDED:

                          This is the entire thing:

BTW, I have NO idea what the red cable is, it was there before, what is it?!

This is the connectors on the board close-up:

Which one of the silver "lumps" is the ground one?

This is the two cables I have now:

The loose one is the ground I have made, Where should I connect it to?

i don't know what the red cable is but its better if you don't mess with it. now the silver lump near the red cable soldering point seems to be the antenna and the other one is the ground. now you don't need 2 cables. just the pigtail coax cable for the antenna. with a sharp knife you can pull out the outer wires and solder them to the ground point. before soldering them you need to pull out the inner wire in the middle of the pigtail coax cable. to pull it out you will need a very sharp knife or a just a fire match just to heat the cable and pull the wire out. hope this helps. just be careful when you solder the cable, try not to short the ground with the antenna, if you short them the mod won`t work.
                            Hope this helps you out.

The red cable is definitely a BT antenna. My first gen MK802iv had one as well.

                                Thanks for replying,
just to make it clear, the "two" cables you see are the split coax pigtail, not two different cables, they both spring from the pigtail.

Now let me see if I got this right, leaving the red cable's lump alone and looking at the two left ones:
when looking at them both, the lower one is the antenna and the higher one is the ground?
They seem to be connected in the middle by another cable...

Do I even need the ground? Is it a necessary part of the antenna?

I'm just trying to figure out exactly what to do, because i don't have any experience in this and afraid to shorten my device...

Right now, I use the pigtail itself (without ground) as an antenna, it works (not great but works).
When connecting the antenna to the pigtail my reception decreases a lot.

Is it the lack of ground that's causing it?

It seems weird that I get much much better signal with the pigtail without the antenna than with it...

                                cheers :P

                                UPDATE:

I have tried to solder the ground from the pigtail to the upper lump.
result: even worse signal & speed...

                                pictures:

                                Added some close-ups:
