Onda Firmwares available for the PMID701C

WARNING : At of this posting there is no way to return to the stock Polaroid ROM if you continue

As with all ROM flashings there is a risk of permanently damaging the device, the risks are minimal with the PMID701C as it has a flashing routine built directly into the A10 IC at it's heart though.

The Stock Onda ROM's below are both natively in Chinese. by my initial testing there are some things that still show up in Chinese even after adjusting the language to English tward the end of the boot procedure.

OK now onto the good stuff.

These are the stock ROM's published by Onda and will likely be the basis for future cutomization due to the fact that we have been unable to get a copy of the stock ROM from Polaroid / Southern Telecom.
As mentioned above, as of now there is no way to get the Polaroid to a true stock reproduction if you choose to follow these instructions. There is a way to get it back to at least near (and in my limited testing working) what you had by installing the Clockwork Recovery provided by Killer Klink. If you install and run the KK ROM Kit, boot into recovery, and then copy the recovery files back to your computer before flashing the Onda firmware you can get it back to near stock. We do have copies of the partition that does not get backed up so in the future we may be able to get it totally back, just not yet. If you wish to go back try the recovery to Polaroid you must first load the Onda 2.05 Gingerbread ROM, reload the KK ROM Kit and your backup files, boot into recovery and reflash your recovery files.

There are several good resources out there for showing how to flash a new ROM using live suite so I will just link to them here:

      I actually prefer the Gingerbread

overall it seems to run both decently, there is the issue of Chinese still poping up even after you set to English. I do think the gingerbread seems a bit more responsive. The Netflix sound delay problems do not seem to be an issue in either of them compared to the stock.
The good news is if you go through the Clockwork Recovery stuff you can make a backup image of your current system and get it back, it still requires several steps, though we are working on that.
Worse case the stock ROM is supposed to be released sometime in the next week or so from Polaroid.

          Stock ROM

I've already made a stock rom for the PMID701C, so feel free to try any of the roms, because now we can flash back to the original FW.

The Onda ICS ROM is fully rooted

Like most A10 ICS ROM's the Onda one comes fully rooted out right from the flash, so if you are having troubles that isn't it. Now if you are trying to run something that needs superuser rights you may need to get the superuser APK to install (from GPlay or download) so that the calling program gets it right, but the tablet itself should be rooted.

Thats what I thought too but i got the super user app and tried to update su and its says

                "Downloading manifest... okay!
                Parsing manifest... okay!
                Latest version = 3.0.3.2
                Checking installed version = 3.0.3
                Checking for busybox... okay!
                Checking current install path... /system/xbin/su
                Downloading new binary... okay!
                Checking md5sum... okay!
                Gaining root access... fail!"

I dont know what that means.... Any ideas?

                  Just use SuperOneClick V2.3.3

That's the tool I used and it rooted my tablet just fine.

A note on a rough go to hopefully help others
Just had a really bad try at an edit and locked it up real good. found that I had to plug the USB in, hold the power button till the windows USB ding off sound then unplug the USB, hit the menu button and insert the USB cable again to get LiveSuite to start flashing

Most apps aren't showing in Market?

I installed the Onda V1 firmware on my PMID701i and while the Market does work, I'm missing tons of apps that say they aren't compatible (Angry Birds free games, HD Widgets, etc...). If I side-load the apps, they work fine...

Any idea how to get access to full Market with this ROM?

                        Thanks!

                          working on it

The last try seemed to work, but the next day it started spontaniously rebooting until i changed firmware again

Does the autorotaion and g sensor work correctly? if it does the 701i and the 701c are two different tablets despite the appearance.
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0

Yes, rotation and g-sensor work fine on the 701i with the V1 firmware. If I load the V5 firmware, then I get an "upside down" device where it things it's right-side up when it's really upside down! V1 seems to work great though, even for games like Temple Run!

I thought that V1 worked fine on 701c as well?
