    Lantic L003 successfully rooted!

    Greets to all

On Sunday, I bought the Lantic L003 Android mini TV PC which is about the only RK3188 device of its kind available in Taiwan. Website: http://www.lantic.com.tw/product_inf...products_id=86 As you can see, it's a typical 3188 device with two USB (1 is OTG) ports, power connector and micro SD slot. It has a recessed recovery / flashing button on the side which is interesting because if you 1) Push the button while connecting OTG to PC, it will be in a ready-to-flash mode (with RK flash tool in Windows with driver) or 2) Push the button while connecting power, it will boot into recovery mode with a typical Android recovery menu.

UNFORTUNATELY, the device is not rooted and has a dumbed down version of Android 4.2. How bad is it? Well, when I try to follow rooting instructions, there's no way to set USB debugging because there isn't a Developers Options sub-menu! See pics: http://www.filedropper.com/screeners

So how to root this device? Also, perhaps another device's firmware would work OK for this one since it seems so generic and can easily be put into flash mode. Which? According to the site it has Broadcom wifi and Bluetooth 4.0. Should I find out exactly which chips are inside? How?

Btw, I've flashed devices a few times, but I've actually never rooted anything yet. That said, I have read a bit about it and think I could manage it.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be kind enough to offer

    pb

Edit: Although I think it unlikely members here will ever buy this device, perhaps it's appropriate to say a tad about it:

    Pros:

    - It can read and write to NTFS partitioned USB flash drives.
    - Wifi range is excellent
    - Bluetooth has excellent range & I'm able to use a mouse, keyboard and speaker simultaneously without disconnections, lag or miscellaneous problems
    - It plays 1080p videos stably and doesn't get too hot doing it

    Cons:

    - Not rooted
    - Has a dumbed-down version of 4.2 which seems made for discouraging rooting
    - Not a lot of pre-installed apps

Edit: To root, install ADB drivers (which was what was holding me back) from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/xg...ers%282%29.zip

    Follow instructions from here: http://www.cnx-software.com/2013/03/...3188-mini-pcs/

Thanks to everyone who provided assistance and resources

HAHA! I thought it was gonna be one of those "too good to be true" kinda things, but it worked!

    THANKS, artukas613!

For future reference (in case the link you shared ever dies):

on android 4.2. (The “Developer Options” menu item is gone!)

Answer: The “Developer Options” menu item on 4.2.* is hidden.

    1. Goto Settings -> About Phone.

    2. Goto “Build Number” at the end of the Scroll list.

    3. Tap on “Build Number” repeatedly (7 times). On your third tap you should see message indicating that you only have 4 more taps to go to ‘become a developer’.

    4. Continue: 4 more taps.

    5. Hooray, you are now a ‘Developer’, go back to the Setting page.

    6. You should see Developer Option menu item in your setting list now.

    7. Open Developer Options and check USB debugging > Ok

      No joy

Despite successfully setting USB debugging, the rooting tool, TPSparkyRoot.bat, only gets me as far as...

      error: device not found

I've tried in two different modes, flash mode (I checked on the flashing tool and device manager - a green box showed), and in mass storage mode with the device's storage visible and accessible in My Computer as a drive. Still, no joy

      What next?

Hi Eric, download adb driver zip, extract to a folder. In windows device manager, look for the problem device (has no driver), double-click on it and install drivers from the location of the adb drivers folder you've already extracted. Choose the right one (mine were in the AMD64 folder). There's also an "AdbDriverInstaller.exe" file somewhere if your new at this kind of thing. Good luck!

More about the L003 is here:

It's basically a CX919II/J22 clone with only one antenna.

                Troubles with rooting Lantic L003

                Hi PB,

                Thank you for the tip.
However, when I connect the L003 to my Windows 7 Professional, it found no new device.
(I had the power plugged in and hooked up USB cable to the OTG port of the device.)
I also tried the AdbDriverInstaller and failed.

Further more, I see no button you mentioned on the L003. Lantic might remove it from the late L003.
Mine is purchased in January 2014.

I am not sure what else I can try.

                Regards,

                Eric

                  2 things:

otg port (on the side) must be connected to the computer's usb2 port. Also, in settings, there's a USB heading (I think, though I don't see it in Finless KitKat); you must check "connect to computer".

About the button, it's on the side and tiny. Be careful, if you have it, not to use a needle or something so sharp it will damage it.

                  good luck!

Do I need to connect the display when connect to my Windows?

                    Hi PB,

I did see a small hole on the side of my L003, it is just like the force eject hole on a DVD/CD drive.
Is it what you mentioned "button"?

And, as title , do I need to connect to the display, which in my case is my TV?
Don't really know what the 'USB heading' is.

                    Regards,

                    Eric

                      you are making progress.

Indeed, that is the (internal) button you must find some way to depress in order to enter the bootloader. To enter bootloader mode, you must be pressing that button while pluging power into the otg connector. You don't need a display - your tv - for bootloader mode, but you definitely need to have the display connected at some point, so you may as well attach it. You'll need to see what's going on via the TV to enter the settings menu after normal powering up and starting your device. In the settings menu, there should be a USB sub menu (near "display" if I remember correctly) where you can check "connect to computer".

                        Thanks for your prompt response.

                        Hi PB,

Thanks. I will try again once I have the right environment.
(I have to set up my NB near by my TV. )

BTW, any Kikat customed ROM for the L003?

                        Eric

                          indeed

There's a Finless 2.0 kitkat beta ROM (for cx919) that I use with d33's kitkat kernel for j22. Bluetooth doesn't work, but I don't need it so no probs for me. The ROM is linked and the kernel can be found in the j22 section. BTW, the lantic l003 is a cx919ii/j22 clone.
