    Latest Minix X7 firmware 007 and new BETA discussions

    I am starting a new thread to talk about the latest Minix release 007. I am closing the old thread that started with 006 as people wont find the info there.

    This is what I have found so far:

    I have now looked at this firmware and they have restricted ADB from pushing root tools or allowing apps to root. As always Android security is getting better! Trust me.... this is a good thing!

    But there is still a way to root the firmware which I just did using ADB. ADB still has root access but only from the command shell command line so you must copy the files from sdcard to the proper folders and set permissions MANUALLY! It was easy for me to root this over ADB and took me 2 minutes.

    This firmware has some good stuff in it! They have learned from FreakTab devs here!
    I see my work in the framework already

    Gameloft patch is IN!

    I am looking at other things now to see what's new... the change log in fact does not cover everything they did.

    Frame skipping is fixed in this kernel!

    I have not tried Mr. Anderson's patch-o-matic tool yet to get overclocking.

    The kernel is 720P not 1080P. I will make a 1080P kernel from this kernel. Reason to use this kernel?

    More to come as I really take more time looking at this release.

    BIG KOODOS TO MINIX! They are taking input from us here on FreakTab and doing the work to make a stock ROMs that rocks!

      FYI Google Play Store "gotcha"....

      Minix still has not updated Google Apps or the play store! When you first run this Google will update the play store. Then what happens is next time you run it, it keeps asking you to update your account and add a credit card! It's hard to figure out how to get past this to install FREE APPs. Just go through it and say "not now" . then it will fix it.

      The reason this happens is when you first login to your Google Account and say "not now" to setting up a credit card, then when Google Play updates, the fact that you said not now before doesn't work. Once Google Play updates, it will keep bugging you to do this so you MUST say "not now" within Google Play store the first time you try to install a free APP.


      My Finless ROM 1.7 will solve this issue.

        Ha Haaaaaa...... Minix also used some of my buffering mods for wifi video buffering



        I gotta say... for people that don't need root, this is a wonderful ROM so far!

        Too bad they added even more bloat APPs to this thing which requires root to remove

        Stay tuned.... I have to deep dive into boot and see whats new there....

            If you guys want, I can make a update.zip to root the stock firmware....

            But I would rather work on a new ROM than do this. But if demand is high for a "quick" rooter, I will do it. My 1.7 ROM probably wont be done until Sunday this weekend.

              What can you say about:

                Id just like to get rid of the bloat crap, and need root for that so a zip would be great :-)

                    I don't see what the hell they are talking about with this. It's a 720 kernel so it is unclear what this does! I have not seen any changes yet that support what they are saying. IT DOES NOT SWITCH to a true 1080! It is still upscaled due to the kernel being at 720P.

                          Nope, video overlay has been in a few ROMs I have made for other devices. It is a new directive that RockChip added recently. It works like LCD density but not the same.
                          All it does it change the icon and LCD res but in a different way than LCD density.
                          I have found that using LCD density still gives better performance than using video overlay!

                          So that cannot be it unless Minix does not even understand what that does and just quoted RockChip on it.
                          Again with much testing on MK908 and MK908ii ROMs that now have this, I do not see ANYTHING it brings to the table!



                          Finally... re: a update.zip that roots the ROM. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! The new recovery they are using uses a different signature so all the update.zip for patching I have made before for RockChip, DO NOT WORK NOW!

                            I can make a update.zip that roots the ROM but it requires using a flash tool to flash the older RockChip recovery.img. I have tried this and it works. The new recovery in this stock ROM they have now locked down with a new signature. So what good is that if you have to flash recovery.img with a flash tool? Might as well stop trying to make a rooter update.zip and work on the new ROM.

                            Rockchip seems to be locking stuff down slowly but surely.

                            The day they make a locked down bootloader.... we will be screwed!
