Something to consider is possibly accurate statistic's might be of people with the lock out problem are 1/3 are stolen devices,1/3 are tring to hack into a friend or families devices,1/3 forgot there password. So based on that, manufactures are in a predicament giving out freely an easy way to defeat the securety they built into a device. Maybe when you register your device they could ask some security questions

I think it would be wise if it is a tablet for a kid than the parents should set up a password on the device, we all know what kids are like for messing things up.
It is unfair that if a kid forgets his pattern and has no Rom to do a factory reset than there tablet is useless, but it is also a matter of security if the tablet was stolen so either way you can not win.
Sent from my SK17i using Tapatalk 2Please consider donating to purchase tablets for Finless Bob to continue his work. This will help in the creation of custom roms and build an even stronger development base for our community. Thank you for you support!

I could add that they could ask a security question along with info like purchase place and date along with address/contact info that you enter when you register the device, before giving an unlock procedure, like if you loose you password on web sites so it is do able. But for polariod/southern telcom based on there product line (cheap devices) that maybe to much to ask

One could also say though returning a device that a user "bricked" seems unethical, needless to say it will be returned and factory refurbished so actually the Company stands to make their $$$ from the second selling of the unit. And actually how many of these are sold vs how many are returned? One could gather the majority aren't going to brick their unit in 30 days and that we, the tinkerers are in the slim minority of those who have the potential to "brick" the unit, and we're not seeing any posts about ruined units because of stupidity and moronic hacking now are we. If anything we're hearing successes in these forums!
Which leads me to this thread altogether, where are these posts about this supposed whining from anyone here at freaktab who won't read any documentation and have now subsequently screwed up their devices which makes everyone using a Mac and/or Windows morons, as has been stated in the 1st Re; to this thread by 'c,lei'?

ST refers to steps to resolve certain issues, yet does not provide the necessary components for end users to actually carry these steps out. In a word, this is UNACCEPTABLE.
In addition, VM's support site also functions as it ought to. Can't say the same for ST's site. Try and use it to contact them, and you'll see what I mean. It makes me wonder if ANYONE there actually TESTED this site at all before they threw it up.
It's undisputable that ST has given us a GREAT little tablet here. If/when their end-user support gets to where it ought to be, then I'll feel a whole lot better about them.
For the 700/7100/7200/7300, none of this seems to have been a problem, so why is it now a problem to provide the same support tools for the 701c/701i?

Personally I wouldn't have and didn't buy a Cruz tablet when they came out. Overhyped and Overrated. Just like the Archos Tablets.Last edited by c,lei; 21 April 2012, 16:26.

However, being ready with the stock firmware that shipped on the tablet isn't expecting too much. They should be prepared to support users with the firmware that shipped on the tablet direct from the factory. (Especially when they specifically mention in support documentation that the only way to really recover from a locked out tablet etc. is to restore to the factory firmware.)
