    Gapps for 701i

I just purchased a 701i from Big Lots today. I downloaded the newest update zip for gapps and applied it with recovery. And nothing what am I doing wrong I made sure it was for ICS. And the update went through fine. But market does not show anywhere. Any advice or links to the file you flashed?

Hi I have a 701i and would like to root the stock rom and add gapps including the market. problems is i have not idea how do it. i read your walk through and could not make heads or tails of it. could you possibly take a moment and give some detailed instructions. i am sure it would benefit others as big lots will be selling quite a few of the 701i's over the next few days an not everyone will be tech savy. thanks in advance for any help you can give.

        Download this zip file http://thejmart.com/701iRoot.zip
-unzip it to your sd card
-on your tablet open the File Manager app and go to the sd card
-In the 701iRoot folder you will find the apk files to install

1 - click on Root Explorer v2.19. Install it and then run it.
2 - As directed by Nux At the top of the screen is a gray box saying "Mount R/O" tap it and it will change to "Mount W/R". Note: We could not get the permissions to change. My son had already installed the Amazon app and changed some settings. We had to reset the device to factory and then reinstalled Root Explorer. We could then change the permissions without a problem.
3 - Back to File Manager, at the SD Card, browse to 701iRoot/gapps 2.3.4/
        4 - Install the Vending-3.1.3 apk
5 - Install the OneTimeInitializer apk

        All done.
I included the Slide Me apk in the zip file if you want it.

Why oh why did I not have this yesturday? LOL It would have made it so much more simple for me. I could not get gapps to take using the above method for some reason and I am familiar with Android. I did in fact get the new google play working by using a different method that I probably could not repear if I had to.

Thanks for putting all the files in one package. I seriously don't know how the walk through could be any simpler though.

Important to note is that the root must be done early on and before any other apps go for root permissions/access. If that happens a factory reset will need to be done with a possible internal SD wipe as well.

I'll edit the original post and add a link to the link you've made also perhaps admin can sticky the walk though so it doesn't get buried in the pages here.

If all you want is gapps...

BTW, the GAPPs alone could have been installed with out a full root.

              Sorry for any confusions.

              GAPPs only:

My problem was was not reading before I tried installing via update.zip. That made gapps half installed and even with root explorer unable to get it working your correct way. But by taking the new google play unzipping it and replacing some system apps I got it working. If I had bothered to read your instructions first it would have saved me alot of time.

Don't feel too bad, mistakes happen and you can always learn from them (hopefully without bricking your tablet in the process, lol)!

At least you got it going now.

I tried the other method (on the 701c thread), we wanted the new icon, but couldn't see the sd card files using Root Explorer to install the remainder.

Wait is getting Google play 3.5.16 somewhat hard to do? If it is I should have paid more attention to what I was doing. Because thats what version I have working 100%. If its not hard then please disregard this statement.

I am finding tons of apps that I can't install from the market, same apps that I can install on this tablet with the gingerbread firmware.

I've tried several versions of market and don't get the Angry Birds with any of them (same as you only seasons seems to be available in google market???) luckily I got Space and Rio a while back when they were available and I backed them up then just install them on my devices as needed.

Before ppl ask, here's how you "backup an app",

You'll need ES File Explorer and a SD card for transfer (you could transfer via USB as well).

1)Open ES explorer and at the top right of the title menu choose "App Mgr" (the gears icon).

2)Find the app you want to keep and do a long press & a menu pops up, choose "Backup".

3)Use the back button then choose the "backup" folder, then the "apps" folder (the app will be in there).

4)Long press the app you just backed up and choose "Copy" form the pop up menu.

5)Now choose "Favorites" from the top left title bar menu (the star icon).

                            6)Choose "mnt/extsd" (the SD icon).

7)There is a pull up tab at the bottom of the screen, swipe it up and you'll see the app you copied.

8)Long press and choose "Paste" from the pop up menu.

Now the app is on your SD and you can transfer it to another device etc... Try backing up several then use the "Paste All" menu option.

I have just been searching on google for the last bit and sideloading any apps I can't get from the market, it works just time consuming. If someone can figure out how to edit this tablet to where google thinks its another device we can probably download most straight from themarket, I have read about other tablets having that done. I think they usually use Nexus S as to what google thinkjs the device is.
