yeah... I understood that... sounds like a problem with chains dd superuser...

Why don't you try either my kyser_root.zip or my Nex7P12-8G pre-rooted ROM?

I've tried this method for rooting last night and it hit an error "failed to verify whole-file signature" And I have tried using the TWRP and I can get to the area to install the kyser_root.zip file... but I can not swipe to continue xD

I have sat down and tried for 4 hours and I can not get it to move nowhere near the end of the swipe area. LOL.

The stock recovery will only install updates from nextbook. (Nextbook never released any).

        You have to use TWRP.

The TWRP GUI layout wasnt perfect on some of the models.

On some of them, the touch is point is slightly above or below center of the buttons/slider.

Try touching slightly above or below center... once you learn where it is you ahould be able to get used to it quickly...

I have tried my hardest to get to slide I had it half way but then it jumped back to the start, I kinda wish that there was one with a button you could tap and be done with it for these type of things.

I wish I could offer more advice but I dont actually own that model...

If you want just root only ive heard cydia impactor works, but is not as simple... requires a pc and setting up adb drivers...

I must be doing something wrong... help?

Hi there -- I was just given my first tablet -- first android device ever. I usually can follow instructions to tinker with things and figure them out, but for some reason this tutorial isn't working for me. There are very few out there and this one is so nicely laid out, so I'd really like to make it work if possible!

I'm stuck on step 5. I have tried doing what it says, but my tablet just turns on like normal. Nothing that looks like a recovery mode. How do I get a Nextbook 9 Premium into recovery mode so I can finish the steps and root this baby? I hate it as-is -- only Amazon Apps and Slide Me... it's awful!

Tried this but came up with error

I followed the step by step procedure and got to the recovery mode and when I selected to apply the updated from kyser_root.zip I got this:

                        Error!
                        --Install /sdcard2...
Error: Invalid OTA package, missing scatter
                        Installation aborted

Any thoughts? I would appreciate it, thank you

Edit: A thing that I forgot to mention, the sd card I am using was from one of my old android phones that was no longer in use. Could this be part of my problem?

This is a very old thread... the instructions may no longer be accurate...

Furthermore, it sounds like you did something wrong... The kyser_root.zip package was designed for Amlogic based tablets, which are currently supported with TWRP recovery.

It sounds like you are using a stock recovery. It also sounds like you probably have a different tablet model because the Amlogic based models don't use scatter files. I suspect you actually have a Rockchip based Nextbook that is either much older or somewhat newer than any of the Amlogic based models.

Do you know the actual model number of your device? Nextbook has made dozens of models and always names them Nextbook7, Nextbook8, etc... depending on the screen size, even though the hardware is completely different from previous versions. If you are able to boot into Android, the easiest way to check the model info is to read the build.prop entries using a build.prop editor from the play store.

I think you for your quick response. I do realise that this is an old thread, but did some research and can't seem to find the right information that I need. I am sorry for that.

Under the build properties of /system/build.prop
                            ro.build.fingerprint-Nextbook/nxm7100lvd_wm/nxm7100lvd_wm:4.4.2/KOT49H/V2.0.11:user/release-keys

I did a little bit of research and you are right, this release is relatively new. New enough where there arn't any custom roms or kernels for it yet.

I do thank you for your help though. It is greatly appreciated.

nxm7100lvd_wm would be the model, but I'm not familiar with that one. You can also check the build date in build.prop file. That will give you an idea how old (or new) it is. I'm guessing it's one of the older Rockchip models, but I could be wrong.

I would suggest either doing a google search for that model number or searching the main Nextbook forum here for that number. If it is an older one, there is a probably a prerooted ROM for it around here somewhere.

When you boot an amlogic based tablet by holding the power and volume- keys, it will look for a uImage_recovery file on the external SD and automatically use it instead of the stock internal recovery, then you can attempt to flash any .zip package you want.

Try TWRP recovery from here, then use it flash the kyser_root.zip package:

Thats exactly what I did for mine 7P 12 8G. I needed the second zip since the first one wouldn't let me set up wifi after bootup. Now fully rooted with your rom. I do notice the old boot occasionally mixed in. thanks. ap
